Hello,
I believe that this is a photo of my gg grandparents, but can't be sure. A date range would help very much. I think that the photo was probably taken in London.
Thanks.

I should have added that i suspect that it was taken between 1900 and 1920, but a more precise date would be very helpful - if possible.
All help welcome!

My books suggest that it could be 1912-1917. There are photos of a similar outfit to the boy's dated 1917-1918.

Thanks Gadget.
If this was taken around 1915 ish, and if these are the people that I believe them to be, then the adults in this photo would both have been about 50yrs old when this picture was taken.
I'm not very good at aging people - does anyone think that this is possible?
Would anyone be able to approximate the ages of these adults, given the era?
:)

I'd say the woman looks maybe late 30s- early 40s. The man could be in his 40s.
As a comparison, my grandmother was 38 when the photo in my avatar was take.
Maybe Carol or Jim can help.

The man could be Edwardian - 1901-1911 but can't see enough of the woman's clothes to be sure. Her hair is unlikely to be 1908-11.
Added - are you thinking that this photo is of the same woman? I see China dated her as 1910.

I've just done a comparison of the two photos - they do look very very similar

Thanks Gadget,
I think that the first picture is my gg grandparents and the second picture is their daughter (my great grandmother), but the timelines seem a little off.
My gg grandmother (Mary Ann Hooton, nee Hawkins - 1864-1945) had 9 children between 1887 and 1909. The first photo could, potentially, be an image with her youngest 2 children (born 1904 and 1909), if taken around 1915 - but neither of the adults look like 50yr olds to me.
The second photo is, I believe, their eldest daughter. If taken around 1910, then she would have been 22yrs old. However, the photo seems to me to be more formal/staged and therefore appears older - I have very limited knowledge of the era.

The dating book suggests the rounded collars the man is wearing are from the early part of the 1910-15 and went out of fashion as the decade advanced.
Where Gadget has put the two photos together, I am guessing the lady wearing specs is older than the one in black.
Does that really mess things up? Anyhow I could be wrong, I'm no expert - but interested.
I think if the couple are about 50 then they are very well preserved! But I also think Gadget's gran looks a little younger than them. :-\ :-\ Not much help really
Wiggy
added . . . . I also think the lady in the specs is from an earlier date . . . though maybe not much. :-\

Thanks Wiggy.
I think that the woman with the specs (2nd photo) is the same as this woman (taken approx 1918). I'd be keen to get a 2nd opinion though, as it does seem a very different style of picture, if it is only a few years after the other. :)
