Hi. All my old Emails (a few thousand) and my new mails(about 200) have suddenly disappeared today.All that remains are the last 6 days worth.
I have certainly not deleted them so what on earth is going on - anyone out there that this has happened to with AoL mails?
Really upset, especially since I kept them in AoL Old Mail folders and now I wish I'd sorted out how to save them to my PC.
I only have my Email account with AoL so I don't think I can get any help from them.
Anyone have an idea how I could retrieve them please.
Appreciate any ideas.

Have you tried any of the "hints" given on the AOL page

Hi Falkryn, thanks for your reply.
After I posted my request last evening, I googled 'aol mails missing' and I saw that there were a few web entries from people who were having some problems with aol mail and it looks as though there has been (or still is) a problem with AoL.
I also noticed that my AoL mail page layout was different in small ways.
I fiddled around and although it showed that I still had 236 new mails, I could only view about twenty. I then noticed on the right hand side of the aol screen that it said 1 of 9 and realised it meant 1 of 9 pages of new emails- tried each numbered page and was able to view all my new mails.
Same with old mails (of which I had 5000 going back to sept 2011 -( when I got a new PC).
So instead of just scrolling down emails lists as before, it's now a matter of working down through the numbered pages so I think there must be something going on with AoL.
I just wish they'd warn their aol mail account holders of possible ongoing problems and save us the stress :'( of thinking we've lost precious info.
However, thank goodness I now can access old/new Emails again and I hope it stays that way.
After the panic when I thought I'd lost all my old mails, I've now got to find a way, if there is one, of saving all the old mails to a folder in my PC but I don't seem to have a 'Save to PC' folder so that's another puzzle.

Barbara hi, just googled the old aol emails disappearing and see you had the same issue. I know your posting is a few months old, but any luck in sorting it?

Are you able to access your account? If not, did you accept the new Privacy terms as requested by Oath who have taken over AOL?

Hi yes emails are fine in all folders except old emails. It only holds 8 or 9 now whereas before they were all there from years ago

I've had to simply walk away from AOL e-mails - all my three accounts with them became ungettatable - if there is such a word. It's a total nuisance, as I can't even retrieve old e-mails I would like to have kept contact details from.

Hi,excuse late reply, short of spare time at the moment. Yes, I sorted my email problem out eventually last Nov but really don't know how.
Sorry to hear that you've lost your old mails, I dread that happening as well.I had a panic last week trying to ensure I'd signed up properly to Aol new Terms of Service but all email seems o.k.
I just wish that there was a way of saving my Family History E mails but the thought of trying to copy/paste them all into Word Documents is just mind blowing because there are so many but I can't think of any other way to keep them safe from possible future disappearance.
Do hope that there might be a way of you retrieving your old mails.

Really sorry to hear that you have also lost your old mails and contacts etc.
A tip for possible use if necessary in the future !! A couple of years ago I printed off my contacts list just in case I had a calamity and I'm going to print off an updated one in the next couple of days because there are always so many contacts when researching Family History that I'd be totally up the creek if I lost my list.
It took about 15 sheets of A4 but better than the dread of losing them all.
Hope you can maybe get some of your old mails back - could Aol help you at all ?, there might be a way you can retrieve them.

I periodically print off my contacts as well, but rather than wasting paper I print to a pdf file, then save a copy in my backups on my external hard drive (a memory stick would do just as well). Should a disaster occur I still have my contacts.

that method sounds like a good idea but I'm not very technical so could you tell me exactly how to print the contacts list to a PDF file and then save it, I think that's a great idea and I wish I could use it to save Emails as well.
Also, do you open a special folder for the PDF file? excuse me if that sounds a bit of a dopey question.

Hi Barbara,
If. like me you only have Acrobat Reader on your computer, and if you simply want to print files and not edit them after they are created, you can download a programme which is simple and easy to use. I use the basic version of PDF Creator which is quite free, I have used it for a long time on both PCs and laptop.

Download and just click on install, once installed it will show up as a printer on your computer, when you want to create a file in any programme, click on Print as normal and just make sure you chose PDF Creator as you preferred printer instead of your usual one, it will then create the file and a window will pop up asking you to name the file and where to save it.
I am not technical either so found this very simple to use, it is very useful if you want to send a very large file to someone as an email attachment.
