Title: Mary Alice Hodgson. Looking for a marriage
Post by: mlmcholm on Thursday 30 November 17 15:24 GMT (UK)
Whilst researching a house in Blackpool, I came across a notice for claims, in The London Gazette, for Mary Alice (widow). I was wondering if someone could help me find either a marriage or evidence of her maiden name. My family were brought up in this house from the late 40's and I have a Mary Alice in the family. As yet this could be coincidence. Many thanks.

Have you looked to see who is living in the house on the 1939 register

If it's the one I think it is (died 1949?) probate was to Harold Hodgson (company director) and Margaret Pearson spinster.

William HODGSON died at same address a few years earlier.

Just a guess but there's a marriage for William HODGSON and Mary Alice PEARSON 1899 in Blackburn Reg.

Thanks maureeninNy. According to listing in London Gazette, date of death is 27/2/1947. Both Harold Hodgson and Margaret Pearson are listed. Although, now it would appear theres no family connection, very interesting all the same. My grandparents must have bought the house after Mary Alice's death in 1947.

I have done an address search for 1939 register, but it lists the surname as Rogerson. William born 1875 and Mary A born 1878. Could this be a mistake with the transcription? Would some kind person be able to check? Many thanks

Looks like a mistranscription.
