Hi
James Baston was born in 1840 in Northumberland.
The 1851 census states his birthplace is Longhoughton (Long Houghton).
The 1861 census states his birthplace is Boulmer.
He was the son of Thomas Baston and Catherine Young.
The family lived in Newcastle upon Tyne from about 1841.
I can't find James Baston after the 1861 census:
No marriage; no death; no other census records.
Can anybody help?
Thanks
Darin.

Have you already ruled out the 1862 marriage in Durham?
-
I hadn't picked up on that.
Some of his siblings did live in Gateshead (Durham) at various times.
I can't find him in any census though.
-
There is an 1871 for a James Baston b 1843 Alnwick who I can't find in either 1851 or 1861
-
That's a possibility as I know Boulmer is not too far from Alnwick.
Thanks.

1871 entry shows son George b 1870 - freebmd has him as George Robson Baston - mmn Rochester
Freebmd has a marriage 1869 between Eleanor Rochester and James Barton. GRO index shows Barton as surname
Not your James though - FS has the transcription and his father was George Baston

The 1851 census states his birthplace is Longhoughton (Long Houghton).
The 1861 census states his birthplace is Boulmer.
Both correct in their way - Boulmer was a township of the Parish of Longhoughton. http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/NBL/LongHoughton
He was baptised at Longhoughton 26th April 1840. Parents abode Boulmer.

The family are in Gateshead in 1841.

Thanks Jen.
I know I've passed Boulmer a few times.
I live near Cramlington in Northumberland so not too far.
-
Cramlington
I was in hospital there earlier this year :-X :-X
freeBMD shows the death of a James Boston in Newcastle upon Tyne R.D. in 1865 :-\
Frustratingly I can't find it as Boston or Baston on the GRO website to find out his age to see if there's a match with your James.
-
Thanks Jen.
I'm guessing that must be him.
-
Sorry to hear that you've been in hospital, Jen. Hope all is well now.
