Could someone please help me find the connection between my great grandfather, Owen Tomlinson (1826 - 1879) and George Tomlinson (born 1845 or 6) who was staying with Owen's widow in Wimbledon on the night of the 1881 Census?

So far looking at the marriage of
George Tomlinson, on 1881
to Louisa Opie Carter
married 04/03/1876 Wimbledon, Kingston
George's father is shown as John Tomlinson
In this 1881 census Caroline's children seem to have been registered at various places
I looked at registrations
Caroline Annie, Sarah Elizabeth, mother's maiden name Wade, so we need to look further back as to where John Tomlinson father to George originated from
What other information do you have to save searching unnecessarily?

There's an 1880 entry for an Owen Tomlinson, Derwent House, Wimbledon - your Owen? Might the will include reference to a George?

1851 census has Owen born in Heaths, Derbyshire. He is a carpenter, married to Caroline.

1861 census has him born in Heaths (but transcribed as Devon!), Journeyman Carpenter.

Sister-in-law Fanny Wade is staying with Owen & Caroline. She is single, and born in France.
Owen & Caroline Wade marry in 1850, Camberwell.

An online tree (usual caveats apply) has George's parents as John Oldfield Tomlinson and Mary Ann Skidmore.
George is said to have died in New Zealand on 8 Aug 1918.

An online tree (usual caveats apply) has George's parents as John Oldfield Tomlinson and Mary Ann Skidmore.
If that's right, this looks like the birth registration:
Jun qtr 1846, Bakewell: George Tomlinson, mother's maiden name Skidmore.

In the 1851 census, George is shown as the 4 year old son (b Ashford, Derbyshire) of John Tomlinson (41, marble mason b Gorton Lancs) and his wife Mary A (41 b Ashford) living in Greaves Lane, Ashford.

This is interesting although I realise you are not after the Wade family
Golden Wade aged 40
Jane aged 41
Caroline 15
Parents also together on 1851 but no Caroline as she married in 1850 as already posted, what an unusual Christian name Golden
Looks like Golden Wade married Jane Wilden in Newington 1822
I wonder if it is your Caroline's family although on her marriage her father is listed as Charles Henry Wade

[/I am going to correct myself as I have found a baptism for
Caroline Wade 09/11/1824 Nursling Hants parents Charles Henry and Ann Wade color]

Thanks for your response to my search for a connection between my 2 x great grandfather Owen Tomlinson (not 1 x great, as I wrote) and George Tomlinson (1846 - 1918). Owen's wife, Caroline, (1826 - 1887) was the 8th child of Charles Henry Baseley (1791 - 1874) and Ann Wade (1797 - 1863). He changed his surname officially to hers in 1821. I have Caroline's birthplace as Hampshire in 1826 not 1824. Am I wrong about this date? I have never come across anyone called Golden Wade! I have traced the Wades back via Field Marshal George Wade (1673 - 1748) to Sir William Waad, Lieutenant of the Tower of London (1546 - 1623) and beyond, but need an experienced researcher to check my homework!
