Title: wales newspaper online - 1920 bigamy charge
Post by: sirsimon on Monday 11 December 17 11:08 GMT (UK)
Hi guys, been a while and I hope you all are enjoying the buildup towards Christmas  :)

Anyway, been doing some research into a crime committed by my great grandfather George Percival Ingram.

He was charged with committing bigamy on 1st July 1920 at Cardiff Prison and was sentenced.

I am trying to locate some newspaper articles on the matter.

Does anyone know when welsh newspaper online will upload articles from 1920? It only goes up to 1919.

I remember finding some articles in the Derbyshire papers, but I cannot remember where I found them.

Any advice would be appreciated

thanks x

Was this the report you saw:

Sheffield Daily Telegraph 26 June 1920

Quote
Alfreton Man Arrested by Welsh Police.

When George Ingram of Alfreton was charged at Bridgend, Glamorgan, yesterday, with deserting his wife and two children at Pontycymmer, Police Inspector Davies stated that Ingram had a 'wife' and two children living in Derbyshire, though the one at Pontycymmer was his real wife.
Prisone was remanded in custody for one week.

You could enrol with your local library and get access to the British Newspaper Archive online.

The Welsh newspapers seem to have been 'up to 1919' for a long time now.

I took out one of the '£1.00 for a month' offers to the British Newspaper Archive last year, but they didn't seem to have many Welsh Newspapers on there that I could see...

I was trying to ascertain whether my Wilson Grandfather ever went bankrupt; which he nearly did in 1899/1900 in Swansea. I haven't been able to find anything more though...:-(

Was there anything in the archives at Swansea or on the census entries?

Not that I've ever found...

The listing for 'First letters of Administration', (first stage in bankruptcy proceedings) were in 'The London Gazette', and there were Articles concerning his court appearance in 'The South Wales Daily Post' in 1889. (The latter available from the 'Free Welsh Newspaper' Site.

I think that it never proceeded to full bankruptcy, - but it is frustrating that the Site doesn't go beyond 1919.
