Hello
Edith Marjorie Francis was born 28/5/1916 IN Pontypool Wales and was living in 1939 with her father and sibling at Panteg Gardens N Pontypool. She was a short hand typist.
In 1948 she sailed to Cape Town ,South Africa and there is a record is on Ancestry. English address was 45 Melrode Ave ,Norbury SW16. Occupation a Stenographer.
Between then and 1952 she marries a John Nicholson in Bulawayo ,Rhodesia latter Zimbabwe. Sorry dont know when.
Suspect her husband is a Warrent officer in the Army. I say this because in 1953 we find her now married travelling on her own to Nigeria. But her address in England is given as 4.W O Quarters,Hospital Fields ,Fulford Road York.
Have not been able to find any other records.
I understand both stay in Africa. Would like to learn more about them and when they died.
Appreciate any information.

In 1953 bracketed with her in the travel records is a 6 year old daughter Nicholson.

There is an incoming UK travel record 1955 for an Edith Marjorie Nicholson where her address is given as Hatton Cottage South Road Caithness. Above her entry is an Andrew Cameron Nicholson address Reg. Pay Office, Hawkill Ave Edinburgh. Occupation Warrant offer(!) Pay Book 2695539
However the birth date for this Edith Marjorie is 16 March 1915.
Country of future indended residence for both is England.
With them is a daughter Nicholson born 20 May 1946

There is also a UK incoming record for Edith Marjorie Nicholson and daughter age 3 in April 1950.
They departed Port Said, Egypt and arrived Liverpool 30 Apr 1950
Address in UK 66 Knavesmere Crescent York. Country of last permanent residence Egypt.

So that earlier record of her as Nicholson and the others are not my Edith. Her husband was John. Don't think there was a daughter but two sons. But again no ideas as to dates.
Any ideas how can we find a record for her marriage.?

So we have discounted a marriage to a Nicholson and residing in S Africa?
All we know is she was born in Wales, married a John ?? sometime after the 1939 register was compiled, which is the last sighting of her?
The 1939 register didn't record a change of surname for her marriage? Entries were being updated up to 1991 i think it was.

Sorry poor drafting.
Edith does Marry in Africa as in my first post to a John Nicholson.But the subsequent entries are for a different Nicholson.
John was killed in May 1978 in Africa . Pretty sure they farmed in the same town they married in
Information came from family letter s written from Wales in the 1980s. But those letter writers are now dead.

I think this may be the right couple. This record doesn't show when searching for Edith but I searched for John Nicholson , in the UK travel records using south Africa as the port.

I have looked on familysearch.org which has a lot of South African records and also looked on Cyndi's list for suggestions as to hwere to search but haven't found anything more than what I have already posted. Sorry.
