Well, I found one of the names mentioned in the article in the electoral rolls (2002-2009) on Findmypast in Wales. There is a birth and marriage listed as well.
Maybe a relative will claim the suitcase and keep those lovely photos or forward them on to any
children of the marriage.

If you are sure of the connection why not contact the police at the email shown?
Cheers

Have done so. Hopefully, it will help track down the family.

Their return would make a wonderful Christmas present for relatives...I hope they get claimed.

The website took too long to load, but I bet that one of the surnames would be Butterworth. I think nearly all Rochdalians have a Butterworth somewhere in their tree. (That's assuming the photos were Rochdale-based.)

I do, too, Carol, and I bet most people on here agree, but sadly there are a lot of people who would throw these things away as so much rubbish.
Nowt so queer as folk.

I agree and the most annoying thing is that those of us who would love to have that happen to us, it never does.

They did a good job on the article in the paper do hope someone is found for them

I think they have found a family member - link is to a Twitter message https://twitter.com/PCSO7637

What a great result :D ...so pleased they have been returned. They could so easily have ended up on ebay.
Thanks for the update.

I have just had an email from the contact mentioned in the original article. They have found a great grand daughter who has taken ownership of the suitcase. :) :D

That's brilliant news ! So happy to hear it, thankyou.

At the time I put the tree together and worked out who's who..
Then we rang and left a message, this morning my call was returned by a family member.. I advised her to contact the policeman by email.
Then I read this article and it would seem I've wasted my time, as a family member is already located.
All I can say is "Brilliant" I would be gutted to lose them photo's if it was my family.

Welcome to Rootschat.
It is a good site for family historians and other topics. What surnames are you looking into?
