You'd think there would be, as he was Mayor of Grantham 3 times between 1903-1923, but I can't find any online. Thanks.

A great great aunt of mine was a lady mayor 1939-1940 but there are no pictures if her online.

Thanks. Yes, I searched the newspaper archive (free version), so I've seen that. Whether any copies still exist I don't know. There's a few mentions of him as mayor but whether any articles contain photos I can't see.

I know I said there aren't any online but he must have had his photo taken in office and I was hoping a Grantham historian might know about a book or some other archive that had some.
Thanks for the link, who could I contact on there? I can't see anything apart from paying someone to search documents (what documents?) as I'm not local.

Thanks. God knows how, but I've managed to find some myself anyway (and his wife). Has anyone ever ordered something from the national archives and can approximate the cost? Wouldn't be more than £20 would it?

When I ordered items from the National Archives I was sent a price and then had the option to order or not.
Is that still the system?

The flying of the Grantham borough flag at half-mast over the Guildhall to-day was the first intimation that many Grantham people had of the passing of the "father" of the Town Council, Ald. Theophilus Rowle, J.P.
Ald. Rowle, who had been more or less an invalid for some years, suffering particularly from chronic asthma went to Lochern Head, Scotland, on August 7th, for a holiday. Four days later he had a heart attack, and he died at Lochern last night, age 77.......
