Hi
This couple had children in Diss and then moved to Southborough where they had more childre, but I cant seem to find their marriage.
M any thanks
David ;)

I'm finding baptisms other way round - Southburgh from 1787 to 1793, then Diss 1795 to 1805.
William Porcher married Fanny Knowles 15/4/1785 Winfarthing, Norfolk, so not 1770.

The witnesses to the marriage were Charles Balls and George Garrard, bride and groom made their mark

Hi
Thanks for that useful information that means daughter Rhoda was 18 when she married and John was 19 which is quite feasible, bur what is rather strange if that on the
Ancestry trees they all have William baptised in 1771 and Frances ib 1775 which would have made them 14 and 10 when they got married.
Any suggestions please ?
Kind Regards
David :D

Always presume that info on other peole's trees is incorrect until you can prove for yourself that it isn't. There are a lot of people out there who find a name they are looking for and presume it is the right person then put them in their tree without considering whether or not dates, ages etc fit.
Use other peoples trees as a guide but always check the info out for yourself. If you cannot prove it is correct then take it to be wrong.

Now, looking for Poarcher!!
Prior to that examination of a William Porcher/Poarcher in Diss, we have
Diss, Overseers of the Poor
Orders of Removal to Diss
Poarcher, William, Frances his wife
21 April 1784
Removed from Winfarthing to Diss
(ref PD 100/119)
-
Porcher, William, his wife Sarah and son William
9 Nov 1764
Maybe
William Potcher + Sarah Ralph
2 Feb 1761, Bressingham
Both single. He was of Winfarthing.
So their son William, possibly your man, born 1761 - 1764

Hi Jon
This family seemed to have really suffered 2 generation of William's I think you have unravelled the mystery by your in depth examination of the records. Now all I need is to try and find the birth of the second William as you say between 1761 and 1764 ans the marriage of John & Elizabeth Knowles, any idea where I should look please ?
Kind Regards

Hi
It's a bit of a problem in Southburgh.
John Knowles married there to Elizabeth Martin, 9 Aug 1744.
A couple of baptisms indexed, Elizabeth Knowles in 1744, John in 1746.
Then a long gap to
Elizabeth Knowles 1757, Mary 1759, Elizabeth 1761, Daniel 1764, Frances 1766
So it's all up in the air at the moment!
