Title: Search for Anderson family - Arrived Quebec 1921 on board ship named 'Tunisian'.
Post by: Fifer66 on Monday 18 December 17 17:15 GMT (UK)
Hi,

Trying to find any trace the afternamed family who arrived on The 'Tunisian' which had left Glasgow, Scotland on 23rd July 1921. The family were contracted to disembark at Quebec however the ship went onto Montreal.

The family consisted of -
John Anderson born 1884, occupation coalminer, born Beath, Fife, Scotland
Jeanie Anderson born 1887, wife
Jeanie Stanton Anderson, daughter, born 1905, Wemyss, Fife
James Anderson, son, born 1907, Wemyss, Fife &
William Anderson, son born 1911, Cowdenbeath, Fife

This family has been a brick wall to me for years as I could not find any trace of them after WW1 ended in 1918. Today I have found the passenger list providing details as above.

Any help much appreciated in pointing me in the right direction to find where they moved onto or any trace after they disembarked from the Tunisian.

Thanks.

Canada Oceans Arrival Form shows that this family was headed to Morris Stevenson, 15 Lily Street, Nordegg, Alberta.

1921 Canadian census shows Morris (33), wife Charlotte (34) and children Lizzie (8 ) Andrew (4) all born Scotland with immigration year of 1921 at 15 Lily Street Nordegg.

Canadian Oceans Arrival Form for Morris Stevenson shows that Morris was born in Kelty and he arrived on the Tunisian going to brother-in-law Charles Johnston.

Hard to decipher his wife but looks like Jeannie S. died in 2002

Morris Stevenson died in Drumheller Alberta in 1943.  His obituary is in the Drumheller Mail.  It says he moved from Nordegg to Drumheller in 1926.    One of the pallbearers was a W E G Anderson.

A Jeannie Anderson died 21 Aug 1932 Red Deer.  Given that her daughter married in Red Deer the family might have moved to Red Deer from Nordegg.  Red Deer a modern day 2 hour drive (approx.) east from Nordegg.

Runkitty & Cosmac,

Fantastic finds and thanks so much providing this information. As mentioned in my initial post, this family had been a brick wall to me for years and I only found the passenger list this morning!

John Anderson born 1884 is my great grand uncle and was 1 of 7 children. The other 6 were all accounted for except John and this gives me the leads I needed!

Thanks so much and I will now review all info provided by you both. :)

The info contained in the obituary alone has just given me about 50 relations I had no idea existed! This morning I didn't have any Anderson family relations in Canada and I didn't know if Jeanie Stanton Anderson survived infancy in Scotland and it turns out she lived to 97 in Canada!

Cosmac and Runkitty, thanks again!  :D :D

 :) :)

Here is Jeanie Stanton Panrucker's record from findagrave.  She is in the Hatzic cemetery, Frazer Valley Region, B.C.  The tombstone just shows the year of death.  Someone has added the date of death as 8 May 2002.... the obit says 3 May 2002.  Maybe the 8th was the date of burial... or perhaps someone mistranscribed a 3 as an 8 or vice versa.

Total guess... but I found a William Alexander Anderson 1912-1999 on findagrave

No idea if he is yours... the death certificates on the Royal BC Museum site only go up to 1996, so I can't cross reference.

I found a death certificate today for William Anderson, born on 23/11/1911 and gave date of death as 31/08/1990 in Minnesota, US. Don't have any further details. This the same date of birth for William Anderson that I have when he was born in Cowdenbeath, Scotland. This may be our man or its a remarkable coincidence!

Your Minnesota William Anderson sounds good!!  It is not at all unusual for people to move from Canada to the USA - or vice versa.

Do you mean this SSDI reference for William A Anderson?
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JYTR-2J7

The transcription on family search gives a birth date of 23 Aug 1911.  Death date of 31 Aug 1990.  State is Minnesota.  Perhaps a mistranscription of birth date?

Interestingly, there is another SSDI record for a William A Anderson with this death date in Washington State

Hi there.. The Family you're asking about is without a doubt my family.. In fact, those are my great-great grandparents! One of their daughters and her husbands grave is very close to me (Here in BC Canada). And one of their grand children (My grandpa) is still alive and healthy! I have made a big family tree and have found as far as (John Anderson's Grandfather) (but have now hit a dead end)

Hi goodz,

Wow, this sounds like could be the same family!

John Anderson, born 1884, is my great grand uncle, married to Jeanie Stanton.

John Anderson had 7 brothers and sisters. His brother Thomas Anderson born 1863 in Dunfermline, is my great grandfather.

John Anderson's grandparents were Thomas Anderson born 1812 in Dunfermline and Isabella Paton also born 1812. (My 3 x great grandparents). This Thomas Anderson's parents were -

John Anderson born 1777 &
Barbara Hume born 1785 married 1806 in Crossford, Dunfermline, Fife. These are my 4 x great grandparents.

I have a family tree on Find My Past with loads of info and would love to share if this is the same family? I stay in Fife and close to all places mentioned above.
