Title: Sidney Hardy Royal Navy record 1939 onwards
Post by: mikehardy on Tuesday 19 December 17 10:50 GMT (UK)
Hi, I have located his Navy record up to 1930's but cannot find anything more.  I know he served during 1939 -1946.  His service number: J42199.  I would like to trace his service record up to leaving the Navy.  Born 1900, Death 1968, Lived in Birmingham. 1911 Census: RG14, 18364.

Any help offered would be much appreciated. :)

Mike.

Mike

You will have to get his record from the Royal Navy, all WW2 records are still held by the MOD.

Hi,  The search document requires his NI Number.  He has been deceased for 60+ years  with no close family to ask.  How do I get this info?  Sid Hardy is my uncle.  I do have his service number (1917 - 1937)

As you have his service number I would go ahead with "not known" - the form does say accurately as possible.

Hi,  I have sent off forms 1 and 2 together with a cheque for £30.00 to RN 48 West Battery, PO2 8DX on the 10th January.  I have not received any acknowledgement or information.  How long does this normally take?  How can I cheque to see if the request has been received?

Sorry Mike, I haven't had to send for an RN record before, army ones have been known to take months.

The disclosure cell doesn't seem to want to disclose a phone number or email address but this link
http://www.royalnavyresearcharchive.org.uk/Contact_form.htm
provides a way to contact them by email.

Good luck!

Hi Mike

I sent off for a record last August and had acknowledgement within about 2 weeks. The letter also explained that it could take 5 -8 months to come through. I still haven't received it. Hopefully it will arrive sooner than later. I have found the other services to be much faster but maybe i was lucky.

Regards
KK

Thanks both,  I have sent an email - at least I have received an auto, acknowledgement for that.  Will let you know when I get something back!
