Hi does any one have any information on the Behan family there seems to be quite a few of them living on farms in Aughmeelick.I have tried looking for this place I know it is on the Kildare Offaly border but does it still excist .My husbands grandfather was James Behan who came to England but sadly died after which one child James was taken to Ireland and brought up there Ihave found him aged 3 living in the household of Michael and Sarah on the 1911 census
If anyone can help me with this family and this area I would appreciate it

Thanks for the information on this place it looks as if people are still living there I wonder if any are Behan
I have been trying to trace my husbands family for quite a while but had been told James Behan was born in or around Naas in abt 1872 but I could never find him there it is only when I looked for his son also James who was taken by family after his fathers death to be raised in Ireland. He is sown on 1911 census as a nephew living with Michael so I think James son and Michael must be brothers. I also think that We have the wrong birth year out by about four year making it 1868
Michael and all the Behan family state Kings as place of birth
Michael and James may have an Edward as a father as both called their eldest son Edward
Any help would be great

Likely death for father Edward Behan in 1888-

Edward's age clearly given as 69- civil registration of births didn't start until 1864 so there will be no birth certificate for him. Civil registration of Catholic marriages began 1864 also (from 1845 for non-Catholic ones) but you can see if church registers survive.

Hi I have looked on the link you sent for me but there are no Edward Behan marriages that would fit date wise wi5h children’s age as it would have to be before 1868ish

To get the name of Edward's wife you can look up birth certificates for any children born after 1864. That way you'll hopefully be able to find the marriage.
-
Hi I think she is Mary Connolly
I am looking through the church records for Edwards birth at the moment but some of the writing is hard to read
-
Best to go back one step at a time to avoid tracing the wrong person/family.
Edward's marriage might list his parents' names or other details which could help find his baptism.
-
Thanks I am not getting far anyway with the birth so will try the marriage

No, you need to search back from 1866 (when daughter Sarah was born).
-
Hi having no luck with the church records I have gone back from 1966 for a marriage but can’t see one
Carolyn

If not there then you'll need to check surrounding Parishes as bride normally marries in her Parish..

How are you connected to James ?
If it is the same James Behan we may have information to share
My James was the son of Edward and Mary Connolly born Kings Co but came over to England. So family in England through his children and family in Ireland through his brothers and sisters are on my tree
