Title: 1891 census - Troutbeck & Skelwith Bridge: COMPLETED
Post by: ainslie on Friday 22 December 17 12:14 GMT (UK)
I am puzzled by an entry for Margaret Coward in Ancestry's extract for RG12/4329, fo 84, p.9.
The image shows her with a sister at High Fold, Troutbeck but the Anc summary gives residence at Skelwith Bridge, some miles away, beyond Ambleside.
My interest in her comes from a death certificate for a death in 1892 where the child died at Skelwith Bridge, in Skelwith Bridge R.S.D, and Margaret Coward was the informant as occupier, in attendance.  The District was Ulverston, sub-district Hawkshead.
The child was Ruth Ainslie aged 3 months, whose parents lived in Liverpool but had family links with the Lake District.
Could the S.B. RS District have included Troutbeck?
Any suggestions from local knowledge would be helpful.

Have you looked at the enumerators route at the beginning for places covered

Yes, thanks, but no clues there.

I have marked this as 'completed' as I have now found a different Margaret Coward living in Skelwith Bridge at 1891 and 1911 who fits much better than the first one I tried.
The oddity of the first query remains  unsolved, but not now important for me!

Its a interesting one that the hamlet of Skelwith Bridge the rivers  county boundary Hawkshead was Lancashire and Ambleside in Westmorland so it depends on which side of river you lived
