Hi,
Can anyone prove or otherwise that Catherine Taylor (daughter of Peter Taylor and Rachel Dunbar) born 18th March 1819 in Haddington is the same Catherine Taylor that married George Dickson on 10th November 1855 at Haddington?
Thanks,

Hi obvious answer purchase the marriage certificate to find out if father is indeed Peter?

PS Catherine was born 1834 in 1861 census with George, children Jane Young Dickson 1857 and Andrew 1859

The 1855 Marriage is on FreeREG but no Fathers named.
That Marriage was at Ormiston Parish Church, Ormiston and they were both of that Parish
I agree Catherine Dickson is not yours.
1851 Catherine Taylor born c 1834 Haddington, Haddington, is with her Parents WILLIAM/JANET

The Haddington marriage, Nov 10th 1855, gives parents as William Taylor and Janet Young.

Strange - the SP image gives the marriage as at Haddington not Ormiston.
Added - signed by James Bell, Minister of Haddington

Re the discrepancy between SP and FreeReg
I've just checked again on FreeReg. Their info is for Banns on 27 October 1855, while the SP one is the actual marriage. Catherine is resident in Haddington on the marriage entry but both of Ormiston on the Banns.

Thanks for your help. It would appear you've managed to unearth a new marriage for me!
From what has been posted here, I understand Catherine Taylor (b:1819) didn't marry George Dickson, but her 2nd cousin, Catharine Taylor (b:1833), daughter of William Taylor & Janet Young, did marry George.
Any chance you could post the full marriage registration document, please?

Sorry I can't post it here cos of copyright, etc. but if you send me a PM with your e-mail address, I could send it to you. It's one of those 1855 ones so has lots of details.

What other info do you have about Catherine b, 1819. Maybe we could help find her :)

Hi,
Any help gratefully received!
All I have is Catherine Taylor was born 18th March 1819 in Haddington and baptised on 28th March. She is the daughter of Peter Taylor & Rachel Dunbar.
Peter Taylor was born 10th October 1793 in Haddington and was baptised on 20th October at Aberlady parish church. Peter married Rachel Dunbar, daughter of William Dunbar (1759 – 1840) and Catherine Patterson (1760 – 1836), on 8th February 1818.
That's it. Sometimes I find people just don't want to be found (or rather I can't find them!). Same with Catherine's brother, George, born 1831. I have nothing on him, either.

PS When was George born as I can see one in 1871/81 married b 1833?
-
Hi,
By 1841 Catherine would have been 22 so she could have died or married and/or moved on. I have George being born in 1831 which would tie in with the census age given.

I couldn't find any obvious early burials for Catherine. I've started going through the 1851 for a Cath* born 1819 +/-1 Haddington - will take a while and not sure if I've got the time :-\
-
Hi again, ok but just to point out the George in 1871/81 appears to marry twice and born Haddington, his second son was a Peter b 1868 Edinburgh

PS in 1851 census:-
Peter Taylor 56
Margaret 23
George 19
Thomas 16

George down as a bachelor in 1855 so that was a first marriage. His father was an Andrew.
(Need to find his death cert)

Oh well it was worth a try, back to drawing board for an 1830/1 Haddington George!
