Just to help refine where the refreshment house might have been in Wolverhampton, looking at your previous thread on the family ( http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=781312.msg6365496#msg6365496 )  are they listed as below in 1881 as living at 4 North St Wolverhampton https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q27F-MJQY   The surname could well be Pugh on the image

Charles is listed as a Refreshment House Keeper And Contractor

Thanks very much Kay i should have realised it would be PUGH filed under LEIGH still getting my head around typos and anomalies at least we have confirmation that he reported on 1981 Census that Refreshment House Keeper and Contractor was his occupation at census .... Ta Craig

Hi Dirtypaw,

Kelly's Directory of 1876 lists Charles Pugh, dining rooms, Corporation Street, Wolverhampton.  He is also listed in the 1880 Kelly's Directory with the same details, but his name is listed as Charles Walsh Pugh.

Corporation Street is just off North Street.

Just had a quick look on the 1901 ordnance map I've got and can see corporation street but noting signalling a pub of some sorts. I thought that sometimes they had a "ph" by the buildings for public house but not on this one apparently. I'll attach the pic of where it was f that's any help to you.... :) Lisa

Hi Lisa thanks for your efforts ...from what i have read the period in question  1875 to 1880 was one of transition and by 1901 the rooms could have gone ..ta Craig

No worrries...yeah I think they knocked down a large part of what was considered "slum" areas - not sure if that road came under that but probably as it was in the centre of town.

Hi Willow x just looking at these areas again without any luck ...it seems that each revolution, war, natural disater etc a change has occured....i was thinking if the civic theatre or other major building was there prior the rooms may have been inside and not an entity on there own .....thanks for your efforts Craig
