Title: Where is this RAF Station?
Post by: Mick Henry on Friday 29 December 17 17:44 GMT (UK)
I have an address for what I think is an RAF Station.

Shorts Representative
Hut 3A Site 3
RAF Station
Stratton Road
Nr Oadby
Leicestershire.

The date on  the letter is 10th February 1944

Can someone tell me where this person worked please..which airport?

We know he worked for Shorts in Rochester and later he was on the Isle of Wight in Cowes.

Thank you.  Mick Henry

There was an airfield near Great Stretton, a little east of Oadby. https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/464806/301704/10/101226  :-\

You might need to use the - button top left of the map to reduce the zoom so you can see the map.

I think it was known as raf Leicester east,  opened in 1943, two squadrons of shorts aircraft were posted there, in 1943 1944 they were being converted to tow gliders.
