Title: Elizabeth (Eliza) Thomas After 1851
Post by: stesim58 on Saturday 30 December 17 00:10 GMT (UK)
Hello-
Looking for Eliza/Elizabeth Thomas, born 1844, Llanelly, daughter of John Thomas (1791-1872) & Mary (Thomas) Thomas (c. 1813-1889) after 1851. She was listed in 1851, age 7, with parents at Tyrmanuel (sp). Not listed with parents in 1861. Thought she died in 1851-1861--no records fit in Llanelly. In 1851, sister Ann was 13;  brother William was 4; and sister Hannah was 1.
Thanks.
Stephen Simon. CT, USA

From GRO Index :- Thomas, Elizabeth. 1852 March quarter in Llanelly. Vol 11a, page 305. Age 8

How does that fit?

Hello--
I ordered 3 Eliza/Elizabeth Thomases (all Llanelly) that were wrong:
Elizabeth Thomas, March Quarter, 1852--wrong--dau. of Thomas Thomas, Cambrian Row, age 8.
Elizabeth Thomas, December Quarter, 1858---wrong, dau. of William Thomas, Panywana ?, 15 months!
Eliza Thomas, March Quarter, 1858---wrong, dau. of David Thomas, Felinfoel, 15 months!!
There was also one in 1861 that was wrong--18 years old, I believe.

Thanks.
Stephen

From Family Search 1861. There are two Elizabeth Thomas, b 1844, Llanelly. Both shown as employee. One in household of Ann Thomas, lodging house keeper, Park Street, Llanelly. (Possible relative?) Have you discounted them?

Hi

As Brentor Boy has indicated, do you know that GRO searches now give age of death for all years? Can help eliminate possible matches and therefore save you some money

Kind regards

Hi--
I meant to say that the two listed as 15 months at death implied 15 years on index.

Ah! Bad luck and bad indexing. I would definitely contact the GRO to complain and ask for a refund, they should not be entering 15 months as 15 years

As she's a farmer's daughter, would she more likely to be working on a farm.... there's an Elizabeth Thomas at Pant farm, Pembrey (2-3 miles from Five Roads).
Working for Stephen Griffiths 65.

Hi--
Thank you. Her brother, William Thomas (1846-1888) was at Pembrey for a while--and is buried there. Was that in the 1861 Census?

Yes it was.
It may be of interest to you that the Five Roads Heritage Committee have updated the village history booklet and I think it's still available (comes with a DVD).

If you type in Five Roads Heritage Society into your search engine, you'll find it....same place as Our Vanishing Heritage site.
