Trying to trace my Great Grandparents births. Robert’s father was a farmer named Henry Connelly (b. c1825) who had a farm in Cootehill....or was the name of the farm Cootehill? Henry married Jane Reynolds. Catherine Morrow’s mother was Margaret McGuire and her father John Morrow, a Soap Worker. Family story has it they both ran away to get married in Scotland, Paisley in 1874. Any information would be most appreciated.

Thanks chinapaddy, I have their marriage certificate from Paisley, but I'm really looking to find their origins in Ireland, where they were born.
Thanks for Eliza Jane Connelly, she had married a John Rutherford on 21/02/1896 , but the 1901 Census she was a Widow. I knew at least one of Robert and Catherine's children emigrated to Canada but hadn't realised it was Eliza Jane.
"Eliza Jane Connelly born 1874, in Paisley
Eliza Jane Connelly (aged 22) was a Sewing Machinist and married John Rutherford (aged 24) on 21/02/1896 at her home address of 286 Kennedy Street, Townhead, Glasgow. John Rutherford's occupation was recorded as a Locomotive Stoker living at 107 Kennedy Street, Townhead, Glasgow. Henry Connelly (my Grandfather) is recorded as a witness."
"Eliza Jane and John had a family of three.
Thomas Rutherford (b. 1896)
John Rutherford (b. 1897)
Catherine Rutherford (1901-1902)
In the 1901 Census, Eliza Jane Rutherford was recorded as a Widow and living at 292 Kennedy Street, Townhead, Glasgow. There seems to be no record of John Rutherford's death.
Eliza J Rutherford, Head, Widow, age 27, Domestic, born in Paisley
Thomas Rutherford, Son, age 4, born in Glasgow
John Rutherford, Son, age 3, born in Glasgow
Catherine Rutherford, Daughter, age 11 months, born in Glasgow
Catherine Rutherford sadly died aged 2 in 1902."

So Henry was in Scotland too??

...yes ...but the Henry I'm quoting is my grandfather, son of Robert Connelly and Catherine Morrow...his grandfather was confusingly Henry too, born circa 1825 he was the farmer from Cootehill.

Many thanks for all your help...another link in the chain.

The story retold many times in the family was that the son, Thomas Connolly, was illegitimate and shouldn't have inherited what was left......my grandfather , being the eldest grandson renounced the inheritance in favour of Thomas...whether true or not, it makes a good family tale. You guys on here are amazing, thanks for your help.

There were Rutherfords in Cootehill - Townland of Drumgreen - as well as Main St Cootehill with a linens/threads shop - early 1800's. Members of the same family immigrated to Lanarkshire, Scotland, late 1840's. John Rutherford's male line did survive, despite many hardships and deaths, and there are descendants to this day in same area of Glasgow. Members of this same family that stayed in Cootehill are found in the townland of Maghernacaldry or "Caldry" in the late 1850's and their family survived with many descendants immigrated to NYC in 1890's.
