Hi there,
Please can somebody help me. I have found the burial of my GGGrandfather John Shannon. It is listed as Burials in the Parish of Aberystruth 1875. What I would like to know is which Cemetery he is buried and where would it be. Thank you.

The burial record says Garn Fach. Only know the area via Genuki.

Garn Fach is part of the town of Nantyglo. The municipal cemetery there is in Brynmawr, just up the road so it's likely they were buried there as church and chapel graveyards were almost non-existent in those parts. Brynmawr cemetery is maintained by Blaenau Gwent Borough Council. They charge £58 for each search - an excessive amount. Brynmawr cemetery is huge so wandering around looking for a grave is a very daunting task - trust me, I've done it!
I just looked him up on the 1871 and next to Garnvach (the "V" is the anglicised version) you can just make out Nantyglo. You wouldn't decipher this, though, if you didn't know the area. Bit of a mixed family when it comes to names!

Thank you all. May take a look up Brynmawr come summer. Bit cold for wandering round a cemetery at this time of year.

John Shannon aged 33, was buried at St. Peter's, Blaina, in 1875.
