Title: Is there a Mells in Gloucestershire?
Post by: Kessa on Tuesday 02 January 18 22:59 GMT (UK)
I have found a marriage in the BT of "John ROWLAND of Mells" to Hannah Lawrence of Westerleigh at Yate on 4 Oct 1722.  Doing a google search for Mells all that comes up is the Mells in Somerset.

Does anyone know of a Mells, maybe as a farm name or a locality in the vicinity of Yate or Westerleigh?  I would have thought that if Mells was in Somerset the county name would have been mentioned in the marriage record.

John and Hannah lived at Westerleigh where their son John was born in 1723 but John died in 1727.

Many thanks

John was baptised 23 October 1692, Sparsholt, Berkshire.  Perhaps he was living in Mells, Somerset at the time of his marriage.

Thanks for that reference to John being born in Berkshire.  I saw it on an Ancestry tree I think it was.

But what proof is there that the John born in Sparsholt is the one who married in Yate and was from Mells?  So far I see nothing to tie them together.

Thanks for your interest and if you know of any information that ties the two John's together I'd be grateful to hear of it.
