I have John Joseph McKeon, born 24 Dec 1862 to parents Patrick McKeon and Margaret (nee Farrel)
He appears on census returns with his family at Tenterden St, Liverpool in 1871 and 1881.
Married Q2 1888, Liverpool to Caroline Casey
One child, Annie Gertrude McKeon (MMN Casey) born 1890.
All 3 on the 1891 census at 74 Litherland Road, Bootle (which I believe was the Stanley Arms), John listed as Publican. (maybe a manager as he's not named as Licensee in Directories or newspaper snippets)
Wife Caroline died 17 Nov 1891, buried Anfield, grave order book shows John as Deed Holder and gives an address of 31, Benson Street and an occupation of Publican. Grave stone shows her to be the wife of John and his mother, Margaret was buried in the same grave in 1892 and gets billing on the gravestone. - only these two names on the stone.
1911 Census, John shown as a boarder at 44 Bengel St, Low Hill Ward, working as a restaurant porter at 'George's Restaurant'
John died 16 May 1929 at Smithdown Road Hospital, home address was 44 Bengel St, death registered by his brother, Francis. Don't know where he is buried, possibly in the grave at Anfield but maybe no money to pay the stone mason to add him to the stone?
If anyone has the time and inclination, can they see any sign of John in the 1901 census plus anything for Annie Gertrude after the 1891 census.
I'd also like to know, if anyone can help, if there are registers by grave number for Anfield, showing everyone buried in each purchased grave, no matter how many years passed between burials. If they do exist who holds them?
Any and all clues gratefully received :-)
Thanks

Hello,
As you have the grave details, I think cemetery records would show who is buried in the grave. I did that once with a local cemetery and got the information.

Thank you for looking. I should have said that the man I am looking for was born in Liverpool. Its still a possible as the birth places are dittoed a LOT but the living on means doesn't ring true for what I can see of him in the records.

Have you considered that being a Publican the Brewery could have sent him well away from Liverpool to run another pub ??

Thank you, that could be helpful and is appreciated. Though St Nicholas RC baptisms are on Anc* and I have looked through the entire image set for 1890 and this baptism is nowhere to be seen. I tried using the request form on the site you gave me the link for to order the marriage and am not at all sure if it was sent or not. Then I tried emailing the request and it failed to deliver.
I can contact Liverpool Archives and see if they can supply copies of the register images now that I know the churches, but am puzzled about the baptism not showing up in the Anc* images. Will have another trawl through in case I missed it.

Yes, I tried a nationwide search but still not coming up. Though the spelling variations of McKeon are legion (both on the images and with mistranscriptions).

Anfield burial registers etc are held at the Liverpool Archives where they are on film. They have also been filmed and are available on Family Search.

thanks, I do have the order for the original grave purchase(1891) when his wife died and the order for the subsequent burial (1892) of John's Mum, plus both burial register entries which have been digitised and available on FS.
John didn't die till 1929 though and those records are not yet digitised so are only available if I order the film into an FHC, which is an option I may look at as I am too far away to nip to the Liverpool Archives (its a 600 mile round trip for me).
I have (as heywood suggested) emailed the Cemeteries dept to enquire if they are able to tell me of any further burials in this grave. Will see what they say if/when they reply.

How strange that the baptism isn't coming up. I have looked - there don’t seem to be any missing pages, yet it shows on the LHP site. :-\
-
Kind of you to look, I looked twice and checked behind the sofa too!
As far as I know, the images on Anc* are the original register and, as you say, they run in both page and entry sequence without any gaps so it is odd.
Have failed at contacting them though, so I can't query it.

Extra thanks to heywood, the cemeteries dept answered my query and has given me the grave order numbers for 5 burials in this plot, They are not able to tell me who the people were, that has to be cross checked with documents held by the Archives.
1 and 3 were the ones I already knew about and have the records for.
1. 38513
2. 38539 (aged 6 years)
3. 39094
4. 48492
5. 52888
I have been able to identify no2 by checking the grave order images on Family Search, this was a 6 year old nephew of John Joseph, who died in 1891.
4 and 5 are post 1900 and therefore not available on Family Search.
I emailed Liverpool Archives asking if they can help and my query has been passed to the research officer, looks like its going to cost me £15, but I am waiting for the research person to confirm that it can be done and what the cost will be.
I'll be extremely peeved if I fork out £15 and find its two people unrelated to our tree! but that wont be the Archives fault, I'm not blaming them as the cost isn't as horrendous as some archives and at least I will know one way or another.
Fingers crossed that I get a result!

I don't think Liverpool History Projects offer a service any more although their site and databases still exist. Most of the Liverpool RC records are now available on Ancestry.
