I am looking for information on the Foley family who lived in County Kilkenny in the early 19th Century. Mary Foley married Robert Nicholson around 1840 and is my great grandmother. I believe that her brother emigrated to Illinois, USA and his descendants may have moved to Canada and to Salt Lake City. Any information would be very welcome. Thanks ;)

is the marriage date of 1840 correct?
Name: Robert Nicholson
Birth Date: 18 May 1872
Birthplace: Kilkenny, Ireland
Father's Name: Robert Nicholson
Mother's Name: Mary Foley
-
Thanks, I believe that this is Robert Nicholson's and Mary Foley's son also called Robert who moved to the UK, but returned to Mooncoin and died of tuberculosis in 1904.
-
but if their son was born in 1872 then they would have been married Thirty two years when he was born. if as you say they were married in 1840 ???
they also had a daughter
Name: Johanna Nicholson
Gender: Female
Birth Date: 19 Sep 1876
Birthplace: Kilkenny, Ireland
Father's Name: Robert Nicholson
Father's Birthplace: Mooncoin
Mother's Name: Mary Nicholson Foley

Unfortunately I have no marriage records for Robert Nicholson senior and Mary Foley. Their first child, Bridget was born in 1868, so I assume they married around 1867. I believe that Robert Nicholson senior was born around 1840 and Mary Foley in 1847

Thanks for that

Thank's Hallmark i was wondering about that as i have to sign in now to look at records.

The links work for me as long as I'm not on iPad, which I am at the moment so I just searched for the record.
If you click on the tree lcon beside that record and look at sources there is a tree for this family, I can't see it properly because FamilySearch just won't load correctly on iPad any more but there seems to be children listed.

the link opens ok for me.
@Sinann: not much in the tree. parents of Robert Nicholson as Robert 1815 - deceased and Frances Blunden 1820 - deceased with Robert jnr as the only child listed
Mary 1847-1919 and Robert have ten children listed in the tree (some of those have spouses and children listed)

According to this Mary Foley possibly born 5th Jan 1847 to William Foley and Mary Walsh.

Apologies if the civil cert link was already posted, I can't see it here.
Robert

Mary
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01l9z/
It should be possible to view the cert online before the end of 2018
or you can order a copy for €4
https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/civil-records/help/i-want-to-get-a-copy-of-a-certificate-what-do-i-do
You won't learn much more than the church record, except it should give address for the couple at the time they married and an occupation for Robert,(that's on the children's births anyway) and it might say if the fathers are living or not and their occupation of they are, and which church they married in.

Thank you all very much for your replies. They have been most helpful :)
