I am trying to find the Gazette entry for Charles Sydney POWELL who was a lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery according to his medal roll index card and his medal roll entry, both of which I have. I have found the entries in the London Gazette for his nomination as 2nd lieutenant in the Cameron Highlanders - 13 April 1915 – and in the Royal Field Artillery, London Brigade - 23 November 1915 – but cannot find his nomination as lieutenant.
Any help or advice received with grateful thanks.

Have you tried searching using his initials as Officers are often listed that way. Try C.S.Powell.

If you have been able to follow jim1's advice, you will have found his promotion to Lieutenant dated 1 July 1917 in the Supplement to the LG dated 20 Oct 1917 page 10837.

Many thanks to Jim1 and MaxD for their help. I now have the entry. I was afraid I would get too many possibilities if I only used the initials, so now I have learnt my lesson which may well be useful in the future.
Thanks again
Judith
