My relation Alfred Foot from Up Cerne in dorset, worked in the 1890's at Clamis Castle as a coachman. Constance Baillie was the governess or similar. I understand she came from an aristocratic family. She was due to marry well but was jilted and on the rebound married Alfred in Chelsea, London in 1900. Her family dis-inherited her.
I am struggling to find her birth and her family details and any help would be fantastic.

Very many thanks but I wonder if this is the correct person as I have her name as Constance Marguerite E Baillie and as she married in 1900 and went on to have children, I asume she was have been born around 1875. Very many thanks.

Read it all again. 1874 is 'about 1875' and it was her mother who was Constance Marguerite Gardner.

This is the daughter of John Baillie and Constance Marguerite Gardiner if you invest in some credits on www.scotlandspeople you can download the birth certificate for Constance M E Baillie born 1874 which will confirm the date of marriage for parents and names

Her marriage cert 2 May 1900 also states father was a Sheriffs Officer - which matches with Rosie's transcription in 1901

Thank you so much for solving. Somewhere I saw Aberdeen as a likely area but the rumour of being from a titled background seems well off the mark. Sorry for not picking up before and suggesting the wrong person. I can only blame reading it quickly whilst having a stinking cold.

Think a tree owner has got a bit carried away and has the mother for Constance Margueritte Eleanor as Constance Mary Elizabeth Cochrane -Wishart Baillie ...Countess De La Ward 1846-1929 .. ::).If you search Scotland's People you will get a death for her mother as just plain

It is very interesting how family stories are passed down. Perhaps the name Baillie had suggested the Scottish aristocracy that my relations were sure was the case. They even thought that Sandringham House was owned by the family!
A relation thought Constance may also have the name Angela as one of her names. That does seem to just an error. She a few years later, died of dementia and therefore it was very probably a confused moment.
Perhaps the war brought her sisters to Chelea and the barracks or were introduced to future husbands by Constance. Thanks Mark
