Hi ,I am trying to trace my Grandfather on the site,I never knew my grandparents,I know he came from Coalville near Leicester and was born in the 1870's,His name was John Shaw and he worked as a coal hewer and a fairground stall worker and and traveled around.He married my grandmother around 1898,her name was Mary Ann Flanagan and I believe she was Irish.They lived in Lyon St Glasgow when my father was born in December 1908,His name was Alexander Shaw and he had three sisters Mary,Sarah and Margaret.I know my grandfather died around 1953 when I was still young but I cannot remember him.I live in Paisley in Scotland.Any info would be appreciated.Thanks in advance Alex Shaw

Thanks for that,the marriage probably was in Milton as my father did live there at one point,although he never recounted much of his parents life to me when I was growing up.I tried Ancestry site before and another Scottish site to no avail.Just by chance earlier today ,I thought I'll try RootsChat to see if anything comes up there.Thanks very much.Alex

There are several births in the GRO Leicester area during the 1870's for John Shaw but all have a middle name. Did your John have a middle name?

Thanks for that information,I never knew of any other name than John at one time I thought his name had been Alexander the same as my own and my fathers.However an older cousin who knew my grandfather told me his name had been John...Thanks Alex

If you believe that marriage I suggested is correct, then get a download of the certificate for lots of information about the family, parents etc.

I had tried this site before and due to my misspelling of my grandmothers maiden name and in looking at Roman Catholic records I was entering the wrong information.I bought credits and within minutes found what I have been looking for ,for some time now.
Finding my Grandparents Wedding Certificate has opened a window for me,I can see from the names therein where my fathers sisters names came from ie the parents and witnesses,so I also have information of my great grandparents as well.
