Sorry, your post is difficult to understand  ;)

1840 Islington marriage has
John Ashton Ashton (middle name is same as surname)
Full age - Bachelor- occupation labourer -residence Newington Green
Father Edmund Ashton occ Labourer
Emma Bazeley father William Bazeley occ Coachman

Where does the information that John & Edmund were both 'serving' in the forces come from  :-\

ADDED I see from earlier posts (links below reply 6) that this is what he told the newspapers on arrival in NZ.   :-\

Edmund Ashton born Chadderton, Lancashire attested 1800 age 17 - left 1822
Coldstream Regt Of Foot Guards - image is on findmypast

Fold3 also has this record but the transcript is using his age of 39 which is how old he was when he left as his age at joining giving the wrong year of birth  ::)

In August 1815 there is a baptism of an Edmund Ashton born July 1815 at St Margarets, Westminster -parents Edmund & Margaret of York Street. Edmunds occ  Sergt .. Gds.
I have not yet found any earlier baptisms for children of this couple

If Edmund was still in the guards then other baptisms could be out of London

Is the only source of Johns date of birth from the newspaper article
