I am looking for a Lily Stephenson born 1888 in Sculcoates or Hull, Yorkshire. She has a younger brother Cyril and a sister Gladys May. Parents were Tom and Jane. Cyril came to Australia in 1912 on the SS Osterley and lived out his life here. Gladys married a James Storry in Victoria Australia in1918 and also lived out her life here. Lily is a mystery, can anyone help me please.
-
Welcome,
Can you tell us the birth year of either Cyril or Gladys (or both)?
I'm having trouble pinning down a family unit with all 3 of 'em.
Thanks, Pauline

From Yorkshire BMD there is a marriage in 1886 Sculcoates of a Tom Stephenson to Jane Baxter but I can't see any Stevenson./ Baxter births on the GRO birth index.
Maybe the births just weren't registered :-\

A couple of maybe's...
Cyril Stephenson. Apr-May-Jun 1896, Sculcoates. 9D 158
Lilian Mary STEPHENSON. Mar 1886 Sculcoates. 9d 157
-
Gladys Stephenson. Sep 1893 York 9d 37

Thankyou everyone, Tom Married Jane Baxter ( info off Cyril's Marriage cert in Victoria,Australia .and Gladys May 's death cert also in Victoria in 1953)
Cyril married in 1918, age is 29. He like his Father is a slater and tiler, he married a woman Jessica Nellie Haynes who he met on the boat to Australia, she was married at the time.
His 2nd Marriage was to Grace Justina Cook, it was her 2nd Marriage.
Gladys May aged 26, married a James Storry in 1918 he died on board ship "Largs Bay" returning to UK 1939. Gladys died in Victoria, Aust in 1953.
As you can see I have info about then but Lily/Lilly/Lillie born about 1888 is hard to find.
All possibilities are welcome....thanks
-
There is a death recorded 1917 of Lilian M Stephenson age 21 at Sculcoates Vol 09D page 144.
A possibility
-
So the 1891 / 1901 / 1911 where Cyril is 1y/ 11y/ 21y is the correct family unit.
Lillie is 3y in 1891 13 in 1901 and not immediately obvious in 1911.
Gladys b 1892ish is on 1901 and 1911.
No obvious birth registrations, when accounting for maiden name.
Not even any children of the right / similar forename with a matching mothers maiden name.
So all we have to go on is Lily should be 23 in 1911, and may be in yorkshire
-
Possible marriage...
Lilian Stephenson. Marriage 1907 Sculcoates. Spouse either Thomas Gibb, William Winston Loft, William Winston Toft.
-
There's nothing to rule that in or out 100% without getting the marriage certificate (& she wed Gibb(s)).
I saw at least one other candidate marriage in YorksBMD for Hull alone.
-
GEOFFREY ROBSON GIBB. 1909 J Quarter in SCULCOATES Volume 09D Page 256 mmn STEPHENSON.
-
Don't think the Gibb marriage is right, in 1911 census Lilian Gibb, 28 born Hull, Yorkshire. that would make her b 1883.
-
STEPHENSON Lillian wed BRADY Percy @ St Augustine Hull 1906
1911 census: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X7PJ-9BT
STEPHENSON Lilian wed GIBB Thomas @ All Saints, Sculcoates Hull 1907

BRADY looks more likely. But no proof.

It may be that Tom remarried. If so, a possibility.
June 1916 Sculcoates 9d 431
Dunham, Susannah - spouse Stephenson
Stephenson, Tom - spouse Dunham
Yorkshire BMD says Sculcoates Register Offices or Registrar Attended
A free index search of the 1939 Register finds a Tom Stephenson, born 1862, in Kingston-Upon-Hull C.B.
Living with Susannah Stephenson, born 1886.
Put slater in for occupation and his name pops up again.

Possible death for Percy Brady (husband of LILY)
Deaths Sep 1927 Brady Percy aged 47 Beverley 9d 109
Aside from that, I can't see a death/remarriage for Lily, nor anything for Cyril b 1907.
Still skulking, there seems to be an obituary for Jane Stephenson (nee baxter)

Hi Mamu...welcome to RootsChat. For your information, Clumber Street and Blenheim Street are both one street apart off Princes Avenue....The area is know as "The Dukeries" and are still there today.

I now need help with a death certificate for James Storry, he married Gladys May Stephenson here in Australia, was on his way back to England and died of pnemonia on board ship.
1939 possibly March, ship was "LARGS BAY he was buried at sea according to a report in the paper here.
-
James Storry. Occupation Builder. Death Date 27 Mar 1939.
Probate. 05 May 1939.
-
Sibne solidrock hasn't filled in the background, the information (probably) came from a database "National Probate Calendar " such as on Ancestry (or another provider).
Background info on that database is here: and at the bottom of that link gives guidance on how to get a copy of the will.
