Title: Looking for a marriage
Post by: LMFAO on Sunday 14 January 18 16:14 GMT (UK)
Can anyone find a marriage for me please?

I have posted here on the Wiltshire board but the marriage if it did take place could be anywhere.

I have Elizabeth Harris born in 1875 Redlynch  Wiltshire. She gave birth to an illegitimate son Albert Fred Harris in 1903 in Redlynch who in 1911 is with Elizabeth's father in Redlynch.

Elizabeth can be found In 1911 at 42 Devonshire Road Foresthill London calling herself Elizabeth Oborne . She is staying with Richard and Lucy Bundy from Wiltshire.
With her she has her 5 day old daughter Kathleen Mary Oborne  ( baby girl on census) and on here claims to have been married under one year which is great for narrowing down the marriage  1910?  However try as I might I have been unable to find the record for her marrying Mr Oborne.
In 1935 she remarried  in Wincanton Somerset as Elizabeth Oborne to Henry White.

If anyone can find the marriage I would be very grateful.

Is there a birth registration for the baby girl under Oborne?

There is this one

Kathleen Mary Harris Oborne mothers maiden name Harris registered Jun 1911
birth district is Lewisham - what birthplace is given for Kathleen?

There is a baptism for this little girl - father shown as Stephen Oborne a gardener
address 42 Devonshire Road

Born 29 March 1911 so that fits with being 5 days at census time

The maiden name as Harris would be correct and the baby is registered as Oborne.
With a fathers name mentioned on the baptism, on the face of it, it's looking good for a marriage but I haven't found one yet.  Could have a look for Stephen Oborne see if he is real.

The baptism is on the ancestry website.

Was an occupation given for Stephen on Kathleen's baptism?

I agree it looks doubtful, there don't seem to be many options for him but different spellings of the surname could hamper things.

Have you got a copy of her later marriage?  I take it she describes herself as a widow and she has kept the Oborne name for whatever reason not gone back to Harris.

No more Oborne/Harris children that I can see so probably a liaison.

Yes I have and she does describe herself as a widow.
I think having already had one illegitimate child she tried to hide the fact she had another.
Kathleen was my grandmother and she knew nothing at all about her father.
She was just told he had died when she was very young but she did not even know his first name and Elizabeth never spoke about him to her.
Probably because he was not real and nan did not have any brothers or sisters apart from Albert who she regarded as her brother.
But I will keep looking at variations of Oborne which are many!!! ::)
Thank you for your valuable help.

Wow - thank you for doing all of that. I will work through them and look at 1911.
In 1901 she was in service in Sunningwell in Berkshire where she probably met the father of her first child!
