Title: Surname from a 1625 will
Post by: Edward Scott on Sunday 14 January 18 17:47 GMT (UK)
I would appreciate thoughts on the underlined surname which, to me, looks like Lamford.

However as I am struggling to find any PR data to match, I am wondering if I am wrong.

thanks

Edward

I would say it is:  Ramford

Compare the capital to that in Richard a few words further along.

I agree.
I think we can rule out Bamford because the B in Barbara is different.

Whereabouts did the testator live?  This could help finding local possibles.

Thansk, the testator was Robert Wiglesworth of Leverington, just north of Wisbech.

I did look at 'R' for Ramford but again no surname matches yet.

However Rumford & Romford do appear in Leverington a few times

Peter Rumford married Joone Thomasine weddow @ Leverington July 1623

Next job is to go back one marriage for her from here

thanks

Ok, not one marriage but 4 (so far), working backwards, all @ Leverington

Peter Rumford m Joone Thomasine weddow July 1623
Nicholas Tompson m Jone Denison 29.04.1617, NT buried 19.05.1621
George Denison m Joane Tego November 1609 GD buried 26 Aug 1616
Joane Wiglesworth m Adam Tegoe in 1596, AT buried 1609

The Tegoe surname ties in with a will from 1603 that RC's helped me to decipher yesterday and links her with this testator

Thanks

Edward
