Title: Royal Engineers 419th Divison
Post by: Juliette on Tuesday 16 January 18 13:42 GMT (UK)
Can anyone help in finding out what happened to a relative of mine Arthur Waite from St Helens who was killed in WW1 whilst in Kent serving for the Royal Engineers for the 419th Division. He was 49 years old. I found it strange he was killed in Kent during the first world war

Hi,

Welcome to Rootschat.  :)

It could be that he was injured abroad, brought back to England and died in Kent.

Is this him?

His service record might have been lost in the bombing in WW2; his death certificate might give more details.

He was in 419th (1st West Lancashire) Field Company Royal Engineers who didn't go overseas until late November 1915 so his death in January 1915 in Kent may well have been natural causes or a training accident.  The units of the division were concentrated for training in Kent.

Hi,

A very warm welcome to RootsChat from me as well.

His service record might have been lost in the bombing in WW2; his death certificate might give more details.

Could this be the death?

From FreeBMD

Waite, Arthur; March Qtr 1915; Age 47; Sevenoaks; Volume 2a Page 1399

Age a couple of years out, but this looks to be him I would think.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

David
