Title: Where were they from?
Post by: Reckless-rat on Tuesday 16 January 18 16:15 GMT (UK)
Hi
I have a Joseph Minard b 1690 in Lavendon, Buckinghamshire, who married an Eliza (or Elizabeth) Pratt on 9th Oct 1721 also in Lavendon. I can find no evidence of any previous family connections in the area, although there are several Mynard / Minard / Mineord in Bucks and Northants around that time.
Any clues would be greatly appreciated

Greetings, and a warm welcome to Rootschat.

If the marriage was by banns a local connection (most usually the bride) would be expected, but if the marriage was by licence the couple could have come froom further afield.

I know this doesn't answer the question of the couple's parentage/birthplace, but it could help explain the marriage location.

Rootschatters are on the hunt!

Hi Phillip
Thanks for the fast response. A really encouraging start for my first post.
The surname has several possible spellings that sound alike and together with the transcription errors found on the larger databases I have found it difficult to pin them down so far but your pointers are well received.

Hi,

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

This may be an odd suggestion but I wonder if either the marriage or this baptism has been mistranscribed ? I can't find any images to check.

Bishop's transcripts

Baptism date:  01 Jan 1695
Place:  Lavendon
Elizabeth SPRATT
Parents:  Thomas and Mary

I can't find a marriage or burial for her in Lavendon but of course these could have happened somewhere else.

Regards,
Daisy

Hi Daisy

Thank you for that very interesting observation.
I had concentrated on the various spellings of Mynard etc and missed any derivations of Pratt. In fact I can now find three family lines of Spratt in Lavendon throughout the 1600's including the possible Elizabeth and then nothing. Considering that Eliz Pratt does not appear in any other nearby locality at that time I am inclined to suspect as you did in a transcription error.
All I need now is to work on the Mynard aspect and it may all fall into place.
