What chance have I got?
Most registers seem to stop at 1935

Local newspapers?

Much would depend on the nature/severity of the crime.
Court records (except for the most serious crimes) may well have been destroyed - there might be indexes but little detail.
Local papers often have coverage of criminal cases.
If you post details (assuming any people named are no longer alive) we might be able to help.
All the best

I've found a newspaper article but it does not specify the crime exactly
It is a serious offence though, possibly too sickening to speculate on here

Try the National Archives catalogue, put the name in and see if anything comes up. I had success doing that for a crime in the 1970s, I was able to get an account, with photos, of an attempted murder and the trial.
