My gt gt grandfather George Foot was woodman/keeper at Up Cerne. He died in 1923 and lived in the cottage in the wood. The cottage was demolished with several other homes circa 1960's by the owner of the estate. I have never seen an old photo of the cottage and hope that as it was near a footpath and as it was around after his death for a number of years, then someone may know of a picture. There was a well next to the house and adders could be a nuisance. A newspaper cutting advises that he killed 6 on one day. George had 15 children and 3 wives and any contact with descendants of those families may be mutually beneficial to our research.

Dorset History Centre might be able to help with information about the cottage.

Many thanks Mark. Perhaps there are estate records although privately owned.

There is a box of photos that might have what you're looking for.

Rodney Legg Collection.
Images of Wareham, Warmwell, Upwey, Up Cerne, Verwood
It's a "largely unsorted" collection though.

Thank you for your suggestions. I am very sorry that I missed your posts as I would have responded earlier. George Foot died in 1923 and therefore it is unlikely that there would be many pictures of the family after that time although the cottage in the woods survived into the 1960's.
Thank you again, Mark
