I traced the Danish ancestor of a friend, named Jens KOFOED, who emigrated to New Zealand. Here, he anglicised his name to James CRAWFORD.

Hi cupolife.... the KOFOED you identified is the one i am after ...the anglicising of the name is also interesting as i saw another name PEDER KOFOED anglicised on the memorial to PETER CRAWFORD ..i believe they started a brewery in New Zealand ...will have to look for a CRAWFORD thanks Craig..named on fathers will feb 1887

Ian ...James KOFOEDS first born was Hans Thomas KOFOED the same year he married 1875 in Australia Amhurst VIC....... he married an Australian girl Eliza Jane Lillian FENWICK 1856 1936 ...your last link just gave a sign on page.. thanks Craig

Ian thanks for your time ...the James you found is on vic bdm as james peter KOFOED ...Eliza Jane KOFOED was born 1856 to young ....I believe the name would have been anglicised maybe from JACOB/ or he liked the sound of JAMES?

I used the Victorian BDM Australia Index without an actual copy ....therefore typos possible .. occupation unknown....

Here is Hans and Gjertrud Kofoed from the 1845 Census in Bornholm.
There is no child that could resemble James born in 1838.
I believe James could have been Jens.
