I would like any information on James/Jim Glover.
James was in WW1 France. He was the eldest son of Mary Glover who had the Hoddam Castle Hotel in the Whitesands, Dumfries. I do have a little information on him during the war.

Hello,
I am afraid I don't know the year he was born but, assume he was born in Dumfries. I do know he died at Vimy Ridge on 9 October 1916. Sorry I can't be of further help. Jim and my Great Uncle were beside each other when my G Uncle was wounded.

I don't know if this helps but my G Uncle was 32 when he enlisted in 1914. It appears they both enlisted with the Canadian Scottish Regiment. Private Glover had been out in Canada for about three years, and was engaged as a joiner before joining the Canadians.
I was hoping to find some information on Jim, before he went to Canada

So-born 1887 Dumfries. Mother is Margaret not Mary.
Fairly easy to find on the 1891 and 1901 census.

This could very well be the family, so James would have been 25 years old when he died in 1916. My G Uncle lived at 35 English Street, Dumfries and born there in 1881.

That is the date I have for James's death - hadn't seen it on the Canada War Graves.
Thank you so much for that.

Yes, it does seem be his immigration record . The age is correct and he was a joiner. He would probably have sailed from Glasgow.
Not sure about the England 1911 census.
