Title: Who is Louisa Anderson?
Post by: Olicana on Sunday 28 January 18 00:11 GMT (UK)
I would appreciate any help in finding the birth/baptism/death/parents of Louisa Anderson. She was  born about 1939, in Lambeth, Surrey according to the 1861/81/91 censuses and in Limehouse on the 1871 census. I can't find her on the 1841 or 1851 censuses. She married William Ingram in S Quarter 1859 in Lewisham and had nine children with him. She appears on all the censuses from 1861 to 1891 living in Lambeth with husband William and various children. She is named Lucy on the 1881 census, but this seems to be a transcription error.

She is NOT the Louisa Anderson born 1840 J Quarter in LAMBETH  Volume 04  Page 253 with parents George Anderson and Eliza Nash. That Louisa is unmarried and living with parents on the 1861 census (when the correct Louisa is living with husband William Ingram), so is definitely a different person.

Is there a father shown on the 1859 marriage cert?

Thank you for your replies.

CaroleW, I don't have the marriage certificate. I found Louisa's surname was Anderson from looking up her children's births on the GRO index, and her given name from the censuses, then found the marriage on FreeBMD.

Solidrock, that is a possibility, but she was only called Lucy on the 1871 census. Two of her daughters had Louisa as part of their names, which seems to imply that her name was also Louisa rather than Lucy.

I just found a Louisa Anderson christened on 23 Jun 1839 in Saint Dunstan, Stepney, born 18 May 1839; parents Sarah and Frederick Anderson. I also found a marriage on 5 Jun 1837 in St Dunstan, Stepney between Frederick Anderson and Sarah Francis. Is it reasonable to assume therefore that this Louisa and Lucy with mmn Francis found by solidrock are the same person?

Unless her marriage cert confirms her father was Frederick you are taking a chance it's the right one

Just to complicate matters, another Frederick Anderson married another Sarah (Johnson in this case) also in St Dunstan's Stepney on 30 Jun 1834! So even if Louisa's marriage certificate names her father as Frederick, we can't be sure who she belongs to.

Frederick Anderson and Sarah Johnson had a daughter Sarah registered on the GRO in 1839.....possibly the one found by solidrock.
