In 1861 I think Fanny is living with Benjamin Flavell and wife Sarah listed as a niece and I think this is the same family in 1851 living in Kingswinford  where Sarah listed as a daughter.   The image could well be Flavell

Benjamin Fewel    32 Labour b Sedgely
Sarah Fewel 30 b Kingswinford
Fanny Fewel 8 b Kingswinford
Edmond Fewel 10 Months  b Kingswinford
Susana Fewel 23  Lodger b Sedgley

The GRO Birth index also lists Edmond Flavell above b1850  with mothers maiden name as Flavell

I think this is the parent's marriage in 1841 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N64Q-T31

Thank you all so far you have confirmed what I already have found BUT Benjamin had a brother Edmund who married Sarah's sister Mary. Edmund died of cholera in 1849 and was buried the same day as his 16 mnth old daughter, his wife died giving birth to their son EDMUND IN 1850. Edmund ONLY had two children baptised Maria and Edmund (baptised after both parents died, Edmund turns up on the 1851 census as son of Benjamin with fanny as daughter of BENJAMIN and as you have foud on 1861 census fanny is niece not daughter which makes me think both children were infact EDMUND'S. If I can see the marriage it should confirm if Fanny was Benjamin or Edmond's daughter. This is further complicated with the sudden appearance in 1871 of William born 1846 as son of Benjamin was he another of Edmond's children or was he really Benjamin's son?  and where was he hiding 1851 and 1861 and what happened to him after 1871? ???

Hopefully the marriage cert will resolve the issue but if Fanny was brought up by Benjamin and Sarah it is possiible she might name him as her father  :-\

Added - Where was the William born 1846 listed  as being born??

Popped in the Hive this morning and you are lucky -  Fanny does list her father as Edmund!

18 Dec 1864 -
Alfred Male age 24 - Bachelor - Father Handel  Male - Boatman
Fanny Flavell age 22 - Spinster- Father Edmund Flavell - Labourer  Both signed
Witnesses - Sarah Male and Luke Hallchurch??

Brilliant. Many many thanks
So Edmund and Mary definitely had
Fanny Q3 1842 m Alfred Male
Maria 1848-1849
Edmund 1850-1852

I think William 1846 also fits this family I think he is probably under the name of whoever took him in when his mum died in 1851 and 1861 just wish I could work out who it was who looked after him.his Uncle and Aunt Benjamin and Sarah took Fanny and Edmund in probably William was just one too many Fanny was old enough to help with baby Edmund. Then after he died they took in the ilegitemate child of Sarah's niece ( from her sister Jane who had married John PROSSER then when Fanny married and the Prosser child left them they welcomed William back 1871.

Now which of the Prosser girls had baby Jane in 1860 and who looked after WILLIAM 1850-1871

unfortunately no he was son of Eliza and James he was baptised the day he was born 27 Jan 1846 (Family search)and buried aged 6 days on 1 Feb in Lower Gornal adode Gornal Wood(Free Reg)
Eliza was one of three sisters daughters of George and Fanny FLAVELL who each married a flavell man. James was not a brother of the other two but Benjamin(Sarah)and Edmund(Mary)were brothers. Older sister Jane married John Prosser its one of her grandchildren with Ben./Sarah in 1861 along with Fanny daughter of Edmund/Mary.
In 1851 Fanny and EDmund children of Edmund/Mary are with Ben./Sarah as children so when William has turned up as son with Ben/Sarah in 1871 I am thinking he too must be son of Edmund /Mary but proving it is not easy. we have made a chart of all the William Flavellss born 1846 +- two from censuses to see if an odd one turns up so far nothing stands out
Meanwhile there is a fifth sister unacounted for Hannah born 1810 I am trying to find a marriage for her in case she took William in.
Thanks for all your help, I am sure he'll turn up one day.
