Title: Hubbard Marriage 1733-1740
Post by: MattD30 on Sunday 28 January 18 23:59 GMT (UK)
Hi

I'm trying to find a marriage for James Hubbard and a woman named Susan (or Susannah) in the Godmersham area between 1733 and 1740.

James Hubbard appears to have been married to Catherine West in Godmersham in 1732, however it looks like she died in December 1733.

The first child born to James and Susannah is James Hubbard, christened 23 May 1735 in Godmersham.

I think Susannah must have been a second wife of the James who married Catherine, and they probably married between 1733 and 1736, but possibly later.

Thanks for any suggestions

Matt

Hi Matt

Two miles from Godmersham at Boughton Aluph

James HUBBARD married Sus. Lands on 29 Aug 1734

Transcribed as Hubbard but appears as HOBBARD in the register, another transcription starts the marriage was after Banns and the bride was Susan Lands.

NOTES written on the burial of Catherine Hubbard 17 December 1733 state she was married and wife of James

Hi Claire

I found the marriage this morning myself whilst at the library, so it's good to have it confirmed. I hadn't found her burial so thanks for that info. Looks pretty conclusive to me.

I wonder if James and Catherine had any children? Could she have died in childbirth? Next question here is when was James born and when did he and Susan die? I'll come back to those once I've written up these notes though.
