It sometimes helps to use that site when children are born after 1837. You don't say where Catherine was born or the first child as that would help us to locate a marriage
-
it said james was born leeds, i will go back and look to see where catherine born
-
Aha, its say Francis and Catherine both born Armagh Ireland, and Ancestry also has death for Catherine Colligan 1871 west riding, saying she born 1801..........so i should look Ireland for marriage?
-
There is a good chance it was Ireland if they both came from there.
In 1841 H0107/1346/8 f17 p26 (Leeds)
Catherine Callaghan 35 bn Ireland
John 11
Peter 9
Mary 6
Francis 3
William 1
Next Household (surname ditto from entry above -Callaghan)
Patrick 30 Hawker/Hardware bn Ireland
Ann 25 bn Ireland
Ellen 7
Mary 9 mths
Children of both families born in County (Yorkshire)

Just amending the post I was going to send. I came to the same conclusion as Rosie.
Also-this might be the birth of the youngest child (of Patrick and Ann):
GRO Index
CALLAGHAN, MARY ANN mmn BURNS

Perhaps Catherine and Ann were sisters?
A lot of speculation on my part. :) :-\
