Title: Charles Ribbans - m - Sara ?? , 1842 Suffolk
Post by: ribbo39 on Thursday 01 February 18 05:15 GMT (UK)
Hi all,
I have a Charles Ribbans who appears to have married a Sarah in 1842 in Suffolk.

I'm trying to see if he fits into my "Ribbans" tree, if at all, and wondered if SKS could fill in some of the details.

Where married, when,  who  (anc...y trees say a Sarah Rozier 27-11-1842) and father's names
if at all possible.

Many thanks,

Alan

I can't see the marriage details online but in 1851 Charles is listed as born 1819 Blakenham, Suffolk   https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGRG-T2H

Given his age and birthplace this looks like him in 1841 with his parents https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M738-26D

From census's looks like Charles was born 1819 Blakenham, Suffolk

Also...

Sarah Rosier. born 1819 Needham, Suffolk.  father William Rosier,  mother Sarah.

Can't find marriage yet.

Thanks for all your help;

Puzzling - using FreeBMD I've put in Charles Ribbans 1842-3 and get nothing. Do the same for Sarah Rozier and I get possibles ;John Asker, Elizabeth Chambers, Elizabeth Shingles and of course Sarah Rozier but no Charles. all with same Vol & page no.

Any answers as to why?

Solidrock; Will try & contact the OP and see if they have any info.

The Volume no. for Bosmere was 12 - GRO index (now typed) shows '13' against Sarah Rozier but Charles Ribbans is correctly shown as '12' - both have the same page number. (both come up correctly on FindMyPast).

So clearly a transcription error by GRO when they had their original handwritten index typed up.

Hi Ribbo.
Don't know if you've got this but Charles Ribbans born 1821? Great Blakenham died 1882 had as his parents John Ribbans and Mary Wood. Sarah his wife died 1899 Ipswich is on the 1891 Census living with her son Edwin Ribbans and his family.
Hope this helps Denzil

Hi Denzil,

Thansk for that info.

I do have a Charles Ribbans born/bapt about 1821 in Blakenham but he appears to be the s/o  James & Mary (nee Gant) per the 1841 census for Blakenham Magna

I also have Charles marrying Sarah Rozier in 1842 in ??,  Suffolk with Sarah listed in the 1891 census with her son   Edwin.

One big problem, there seems to be more than one  "Charles Ribbans" born in the area from 1819 to 1821 and the ones I have censuses for, indicate different occupations ranging from; Ag.Labr - 1841, Milkman -1851, Coal carter 1861, Hay & coal dealer 1871, farmer 1881.

Trying to find where they all fit is the problem.

Where did you find John Ribbans marrying Mary Wood,? please.

I have not referenced where John Ribbans and Mary Woods come from but my notes say Ribbans then in brackets Revans as if this was an error or transcript. But I did have a Rootschat forum on 5.6.2011 with "Bailey family".  See if you can trace this back.  Also some other details which I think came from Ancestry.
Elizabeth S Ribbans b1869 Ipswich her parents Thomas James Ribbans and Elizabeth Whent .
Thomas b1841
Thomas b1820 son of Joseph Ribbans(Rivers) ans Sophia Rush
Joseph b1779 son of James and Mary Ann Foulger
James son of William Ribbans and Elizabeth Canham.   Does this help at all?
I have pencilled in some 10 births in Bosmere to Sarah and Charles to 1849 for example Rosamund and Aaron then more births later in Ipswich.
Have you got all this - best I can do. Denis
