Patrick signed - Sarah couldn't write
both from Lymm parish - there is a Note on the Cheshire Parish Records Database - Patrick is written as MELLONE - not Malone
google CPRDb
click on marriage
Malone

LYMMM00600767.30043 is the record number
married 23rd May 1784
I am going to see if there is a record of a birth for Patrick Mellone  :)

ADDED ...no result for Patrick - but this may be Sarah

Yes Solidrock - just found that on www.familysearch.org
ALL records on there are Patrick Melone
marriage and 2 baptisms
.,..............also CPRDb has the 3 records as Melone
you might want to make a note of  Mary Meloney baptized 6th feb 1743 - father Morris Meloney  in Knutsford  - also close to Lymm.
somehow I think Meloney became Melone and then Malone ????

Interesting addition to Sarah's death...

Bu 1798/01/12 (Malone) She was murdered by John Thornhill (by whom she was with child) & thrown into the Mill Dam. Body was found on 8th. Thornhill committed to Chester Castle on a strong Suspicion. Arraigned on 20th of April and after a trial of 14 hours was convicted upon the strongest presumptive Evidence. Executed on the 23rd. When at the gallows & not til then he acknowledged himself guilty. He was Servant to Revd Mr. Archdeacon Leigh, Rector of Lymme.

Seems to be quite a few books on the subject.

The Evidence on the Trial of John Thornhill, for the Murder of Sarah Statham, at Lymm, in Cheshire for Which He Was Executed, at Chester, on Monday the Twenty-Third of April, 1798 with Some Particulars of His Behaviour:
