Title: Annie Creighton,died 11 March 1913,aged 18
Post by: Curley on Wednesday 07 February 18 11:04 GMT (UK)
Hi All.
I found the death of Annie Creighton,in Carlow workhouse on 11 March 1913.
Address given is Duckett,s Grove,I presume the estate of that name. This detail is on Irish Geneology.
I am trying to find the whereabouts of an Annie Creighton born in Dungannon district 14 Feb 1895.
Her father was William,a land steward who appears to have worked all over Ireland.i.e Antrim 1901.Cahermoyle 1906.Dublin 1896,Clones 1911. My thoughts are ,was this Annie in Duckett,s Grove a servant, who took ill and removed to Workhouse where it states she died of tuberulosis after 7 months.

Any ideas how I can trace any history of Annie in Carlow.
Many thanks
Curley

Many thanks

There is a marriage of a William Creighton of Duckett's Grove 1913 father George a farmer. This Annie may belong to that family

FTR LINK (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1913/05342/4487760.pdf) to death record

Duckett' Grove was was built around 1830 by William Duckett. It was redesigned in a castellated Gothic revival style in the early 1800s. Duckett’s Grove is elaborately ornamented with oriels and niches containing statues. Several statues on pedestals surrounded the building and lined the approaches. The house is situated in the townland of Rainstown. At its height the house had a staff of eleven men to maintain the grounds alone.

After the death of William Duckett in 1908, the last male Duckett, his wife Maria Georgina Duckett lived on in the property until circa 1916. By this time she was no longer on speaking terms with her only daughter, Olive. The outcome of this was the disinheritance of her daughter following her death 1937, leaving her what is known as "the angry shilling", just one shilling, from an estate valued at £97,735 at the time.

Following the departure of the Ducketts, the estate was managed by an agent until 1921, and was subsequently managed by local farmers, and later by the Land Commission. The Duckett's Grove house was destroyed by fire overnight on 20 April 1933.

The Ducketts in 1901 LINK (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Carlow/Burton_Hall/Rainstown/1040161/)
Marie Duckett was living in Dublin in 1911
In 1911 there are no Ducketts at the house nor a CREIGHTON LINK (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/results.jsp?census_year=1911&surname=&exact=&firstname=&county19011911=&county1821=&county1831=&county1841=&county1851=&townland=RAINESTOWN&ded=&age=&sex=&relationToHead=&religion=&education=&occupation=&marriageStatus=&marriageYears=&childrenBorn=&childrenLiving=&birthplace=&nativeCountry=&language=&deafdumb=&houseNumber=&familiesNumber=&malesNumber=&femalesNumber=&maleServNumber=&femaleServNumber=&estChurchNumber=&romanCatNumber=&presbNumberDiv=&protNumber=&parish=&barony=&yearsMarried=&causeOfDeath=&yearOfDeath=&familyId=&ageInMonths=&search=Search&sort=surnameSort&pageSize=100)

There are only three Ann(e)(ie) CREIGHTONs on the 1911 census

HI Sinann
You have got me going.
William is a land steward, father is George, widowed.,probably works in the estate, All the details match Annie,s father from up North. Also interesting Williams death record in Monaghan in 1941 lists him as married, although his wife Elizabeth died in Limerick. In 1906.
Lots of similarities to ponder over, but looks a possibility this is the unfortunate Annie in the workhouse, a daughter of William and most likely my Annie from Dungannon.
Your thoughts would be appreciated
Curley
P.s William was in Monaghan in the 1911 census but spelt Crighton

Must admit I didn't have much time so didn't pay that much attention to the cert but yes it looks possible this is your William.

Wonder then is this the death of Mary CREIGHTON nee PROUDMAN in 1947 LINK (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1947/04574/4208994.pdf) #410

Informant Sarah Olive CREIGHTON daughter
There is a Sarah O CREIGHTON who travels to New York from Southampton on the Georgic on Apr 18 1952 aged 34 implying an DoB of c1918
There is a birth in 1919 (unfortunately not yet online) in Enniskillen District; Q2 V2 P75
FindMyPast has the record but no mother's name is given
If this birth record confirmed the given name as Sarah Olive and mother as Mary nee PROUDMAN you would have a connection

Same couple still there in 1911 with son George (born Wales)- married 25 years so doesn't seem to fit Annie's birth-

Thanks for correcting my error myluck!- bit of my post went missing  :-[

Annie was born at Creeve but father's residence was Co. Dublin- perhaps Elizabeth (Sampson) Creighton went back home to have her baby.

Annie's birth registered in 1896 so doesn't appear in results when searching for 1895 as the year.

William CREIGHTON m Elizabeth SAMPSON in 1890 LINK (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1890/10690/5896101.pdf)

She was from Creeve
and his father was called George

It is possible that he is the William CREIGHTON that married in 1913 in Carlow to Mary PROUDMAN and Annie CREIGHTON who died there was his and Elizabeth's daughter
