Title: Ulick Thornton late 1700s early 1800s
Post by: Wayne Cook on Saturday 17 February 18 02:06 GMT (UK)
I have looked through the Parish Records (several times) for Saint Nicholas N & E Galway provided by Maggsie and with the records available I can not find a marriage or a death for a Ulick Thornton wife Catherine.

The only mention of a Ulick Thornton I can find anywhere is a baptism for a Michl Thornton 21 Sep 1815 Saint Nicholas N & E Galway.

He is looking like a brick wall that will go no further.

Civil registrations has a Catherine Thornton born about 1788 and died 1872 (aged 84) Galway but no other info.

Thanks, I am on family search and no Ulick Thornton comes up

I will check out findmypast.

My cousin is on Ancestry and she can't find anything on him either.

I will try contacting the Parish itself but it looks like all their records for the time are already on line (the actual registers) and I have looked through them.

St.Nicholas
St.Nicholas South and West
St.Nicholas North
St.Nicholas East
to start with
Just put one of the names in the search and than work from the map to find the surrounding ones
https://registers.nli.ie/
The Saint Nicholas ones are a bit odd as all but the East one come up on the same spot.
Most probably won't have records earlier enough.

Thanks, have looked at the ones now under Saint Nicholas N & E (that includes Market Street, St Nicholas and another one). I will try South and West.

Ulick might not be his first name?

You could write to the local paper in Galway asking for information and some times the church might put something in their news letter for you asking for information.

I said in my initial post in this thread "I have looked through the Parish Records (several times) for Saint Nicholas N & E Galway provided by Maggsie and with the records available I can not find a marriage or a death for a Ulick Thornton wife Catherine"

Using that link provided by Maggsie I looked at the registers that showed up. So I couldn't have stated it any clearer.

Yes, I agree it might not be as I believe there is a baptism of an Anne Thornton parents Bate Thornton and Catherine Fahey Sept 1812 but the family I'm looking for Anne as a sister isn't mentioned in 1842
