Hi ,
I think Charles married Mary Ethel Hoye(s) 1916 New Zealand and they had a son in 1916.
Family stories say that he served in the New Zealand Forces in WW1 and at some point returned to Scotland(possibly during his Army service ?).
It looks like he died in New Zealand in 1931.
His parents were James Henderson Morrison and Rachel Milne Tawse , the son born in 1916 had the middle name of Tawse so I think I have the correct Charles Morrison.
I don't know when he went to New Zealand , he was on the 1901 Census in Scotland.
Any further information would be much appreciated :)

Although he died in 1931, the probate is dated 1938.

There is an arrival in New Zealand in 1905 of a Chas MORRISON of about the right age:

There are two military record files for your man
http://ndhadeliver.natlib.govt.nz/delivery/DeliveryManagerServlet?dps_pid=IE20474036
http://ndhadeliver.natlib.govt.nz/delivery/DeliveryManagerServlet?dps_pid=IE14637366
The second one is mainly medical information.
-
The first military file has a record of his marriage, 3 children, and his admission to a hospital in Dundee in 1918.
-
Thank you :)
Looks like Mary didn't deal with the Probate and had to go back to court years later.
The Forces records are certainly my Charles Morrison.
and his admission to a hospital in Dundee in 1918.
doesn't look like he was being treated for war wounds........ :-X
Charles Lindsay Morrison was my great grandad's(Peter Morrison) younger brother.

Hello.
A simple Charles Morrison search of our PapersPast site brings up a number of references to Charles, mining accidents etc and one on February 14 1922, when Mary gives public notice that she is applying for a residential site licence under some mining law. No 125423 14/2/1922.
Waihi Daily Telegraph.
Sorry, must dash, but might get back later to dig further and attach a link or two.
Alan.
PS Back again. For some reason I have been unable to raise a search on CENOTAPH today. However my first PapersPast search for Charles Morrison found few hits in the Waikato. When I returned I just searched for MORRISON limited to the Waihi Daily Telegraph and discovered there was a Mine surveyer and others in that industry. Herewith is links that look like they link to your Charles Lindsay MORRISON.
Mary MORRISON …….… a license for a residence site, as specified in a schedule of the Mining Act 1908.

As the local Brotherhood of the Druids Lodge were called to attend the funeral, it might be productive to enquire if their records of that time survive. I know of others that have. The Lodge members supported their own, and it is surprising what minutes contain regarding benefits being offered to spouses and children, in times of sudden death, plus address for service. Support often continuing for quite some time.
I would suggest that you GOOGLE the Waihi Museum and enquire using the email address posted on their Contact Us page. They may also have other items on Mr Charles Lindsay MORRISON.

Thank you everyone :)
Loads of information to dissect , it does it not surprise me that Charles was a member of the Masons(as were my grandmother and grandfather).
1915/7351 Hoye Jessie Mary Ethel NR
1915/22442 Bramble Alexa Edna Rita Sarah NR
Possible two daughters to different mothers ??? , my grandmother(b. 1910) was named Edna.

Hello Ev,
1915/7351 Hoye Jessie Mary Ethel NR
1915/22442 Bramble Alexa Edna Rita Sarah NR
Possible two daughters to different mothers ??? , my grandmother(b. 1910) was named Edna.
The two girls whose births were illegitimate, are listed as the children of Charles Lindsay Morrison on his WW1 file, so he obviously acknowledged them as being his or at least his responsibility.

The Druids were a different organisation.

My apologies to the Druids , just shows my lack of knowledge on the subject.
Minniehaha , I do wonder if Sarah Bramble married , possible death in 1961 age 77.

Hi Ev
I have some information for you, re: Sarah BRAMBLE ... will post it shortly.

-
Sarah BRAMBLE (1883 - 1961) :
Sarah BRAMBLE, born Hampshire, was the daughter of Sarah (nee BENNETT ?) and Joseph BRAMBLE. She arrived in New Zealand as an infant with her parents and several siblings.
[Sophie BRAMBLE, (married A.J. STAPLETON) referred to in the wedding article link posted earlier, was her NZ-born sister.]
Sarah BRAMBLE remained a spinster and died aged 77 years in 1961, as you found in the listing. She was the birth mother of Alexa Edna Rita BRAMBLE.
Obviously it is difficult to know exactly under what circumstances Alexa BRAMBLE came to be a part of the Charles L. MORRISON family ? Alexa BRAMBLE's birth > 14 April 1915 > was registered at Auckland, as was the birth (5 June 1915) of Jessie HOYE (d/o Mary Ethel, later MORRISON) some seven weeks later.
Of most interest perhaps, is that Sarah BRAMBLE did have a relationship with her daughter Alexa, and Alexa in turn, was acknowledged by at least two of Sarah's siblings.
[The 1927 Will of Joseph BRAMBLE bequeaths a third share each of his real and personal property to his sisters Flora Ann BRAMBLE and Sarah BRAMBLE and his niece, Alexa BRAMBLE.
The 1947 Will of Flora Ann BRAMBLE, names "my sister Sarah BRAMBLE, spinster of Glen Eden and, my niece Alexa Edna Rita SORENSEN, single woman of Thames", as executrices.]
The following is the link to the Will (Probate file) of Sarah BRAMBLE (it also names a grandchild).

Sarah BRAMBLE, (despite her child apparently having been born in Auckland in 1915), resided prior to, up until about 1938, at the settlement of Waitekauri (Waikato district) which was about less than 10 miles or so from Waihi, where the MORRISONs lived.
According to electoral rolls, a number of BRAMBLE siblings were also living at or near Waitekauri.
From 1946 Sarah lived with her spinster sister, Flora at Glen Eden, Auckland. Flora died there in 1957 and it may have been about this time that Sarah returned to Thames (Waikato) where Alexa was then living.

To follow is info for Jessie HOYE (b. 1915 - later known as Jessie MORRISON) :

... the informaton I've given here for Sarah BRAMBLE came from a number of sources, but whilst I was searching, I came across a "family tree" (@ ancestry website).
Somewhat ironically it was the "HOY family tree" although it seems to have no connection at all to HOYE (as in Mary Ethel w/o Charles L. MORRISON). ;D
Rather the connection seems to be to the BRAMBLE family - in particular the union of Sophie BRAMBLE and A.J. STAPLETON (m. 1908).
The "tree" is not of any importance at all to your MORRISON search, but it does have a rather lovely photo of Sarah BRAMBLE and her daughter Alexa (just in case you're interested).

Jessie HOYE -- aka Jessie MORRISON :
Below are details > Waihi Cemetery > for Jessie CARTER (d. 2003) and her husband Edward Alan James* CARTER (d. 1993) :
[* Other records - including marriage in 1940 - show his names as Allan Edward James CARTER. ]

NZ BDM - Death Index (online) has >
2003 / 23517 - CARTER - Jessie - date of birth = 5 June 1915
Electoral rolls show that there may have been two sons of the union (i.e. possible children sharing a common address). [Neil Henry Charles CARTER also on the Waihi Cemetery database (d. 1999) is possibly a son ? ]
