I am researching the parents and siblings of John Merry born Newland Gloucestershire
Resided at Clearwell Occupations MIner and Engine Driver
His first marriage was in 1845 the second 1858
He Died 1884
I have his marriage certificate but there is blank space for his fathers name and occupation
So have hit a brick wall.

Is he this 1841 entry? The absence of a fathers name on his marriage cert would suggest he was illegit whereas this entry appears to have a father

The Forest of Dean site has a baptism in Welsh Bicknor (about 6 miles from Newland) for a John Merry on 23 February 1823, the illegitimate son of Ann, a spinster.

1841 for Arlingham Gloucester - all surname Merry although originally transcribed as Marry. All born in county
John 65
John 20
Thomas 11
Mary 50
Elizabeth 13
Ref as in earlier reply
I think Emeltom’s find is more likely to be him

Had a look at Ancestry - and think possibly this is John MERRY aged 15 - and a Miner, : Dean Forest, Ross, District 3 - Page 7 of 8 (Clay Lane) : Resigration District: COLEFORD
John MERRY says on the 1861, census he was born Coleford

?
Possible death of his mother: Ann MERRY - 14 July 1832, aged 45, Welsh Bicknor

I think this is more likely to be John in 1841
