I am trying to find the father on James Hunston born in Lancashire 1850. In the 1861 census it has his family as Hunton with father James - as least I think it is since I cannot find any other Hunston. It has James senior born in Ireland and a widow. I can't find his wife (James junior's mother). Being new to this genealogy science so to speak can anyone offer any information. I've tried BMD and Family search and Myheritage. I've attached the 1881 and 1861 census's

I notice that James Hunston's marriage to his wife Margaret Dalton is on 17 Aug 1868 at Manchester, St Mary, St Denys and St George. James is listed as age 20 a dyer with father James Hunston listed as a Calico Printer so is possible that James might have been born prior to 1850??
I wonder if this James Hunston in 1851 might worth considering? The family were living in Levenshulme which your James's lists his birthplace in 1881. Also this father's occupation could tie in with your James being listed as a dyer when he married??

Kay your link to the gentleman in Liverpool was the one I had found but I think the other information tallies up much better so born in 1846 it is. Have learnt a few tricks already.

Hello Again,
I think James Hunston or Hunstone has been sorted, but I am having difficulty with his wife Margaret Dalton. Their marriage certificate in 1868 shows her aged 18 and her father as William Dalton. I cannot find him in the 1861 census with a daughter Margaret who should be 11 years old.
As an aside - The certificate was given to me by my 3rd cousin whom i found two days ago via a DNA match .We had both had tests done and Ancestry came up with a high probability match. It turns out we are indeed related. It turns out her maternal grandmother and my paternal grandfather were sibling.

I can't see Margaret either sadly. Her address was Chadwick St Manchester when she married and I find this William Dalton and family living there in 1861 with no sign of Margaret. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M7FQ-7YM
I can't see this William or his family pre or post this date. Quite possibly completely unrelated :-\
