Title: Robert Crawford 1812 Haddington
Post by: Crawfordburgess on Wednesday 21 February 18 05:40 GMT (UK)
Does anyone know of a Crawford family that lived in Haddington between 1810 and 1840?
I am researching Robert Crawford of Haddingtonshire who was listed as an Army Deserters  from 1st Foot in 1838.
To trace him my only information is the birthplace details given on the deserter list -  born at Haddington in 1812.  (There is also a mention of Dunbar).
I suspect he made himself disappear after the desertion
I have searched records on Findmypast, Ancestry.com and familysearch.org but cannot find any reference to his birth or baptism in Haddingtonshire.
Is there anything I can do?
My ancestor came to Australia from Glasgow, using  a false name, in 1838.  I believe his real name was "Robert Crawford"  - possibly the army deserter?
Thanks,
Peter

Have you checked FreeReg?

There are quite a few Crawford baptisms in Haddington (East Lothian), including one Robert born in 1807, son of George and Marion.

Thanks Bev.  I shall check it out.  He is proving very elusive.
