Any information would be very much appreciated.

It was 280 George Street in 1936. Quite a bit on the net about this building.

Do you know whether there would be a Glasgow Post Office Directory for 1943/1946
which might list the names of of people in the Inland Revenue Office.

Faces the north frontage of the City Chambers Cupcake! This shows the red sandstone Parish Hall with the cream sandstone IR Offices to the left.

The 1941/42 Directory has a large section re Inland Revenue it refers only to information about Tax rates etc not the people working there. The 1943 has even less information although in addition to the offices listed in the image there are several other address spread throughout the City Centre area associated with the Inland Revenue.

In addition to the George Street Site there were others :-

Many thanks for answering my query. Thought it may have named the people working there.

The principal officers appear to be listed for each address but there is no overall employee list for any of the addresses (which wasn't really the role of the Directory) and given that unless you made it to the top in the Civil Service you were basically anonymous, especially to the hierarchy

The different offices appear to have had different purposes - do you know your fathers role in the Revenue ?
George street is listed as a Collection Office while the others in the 41/42 listing appear to be administration. Mitchell Street is cited as the Head Office while Wellington Street and Sauchiehall Street are linked with Dunbartonshire and Rutherglen.

Many of these office blocks are still standing and can be seen in Googles Street View

Presumably the employees signed the Official Secrets Act & had some anonymity!

I believe he was a Deputy Collector of Taxes when he was when he was transferred to Dumfries in 1946.
