Hello all
Not sure if I've asked this before, so apologies in advance
Why were Trinant BMD's from the 40's thru 60's registered as Caerleon, which is 16+ miles away whereas Pontypool is only 6+ miles away?
Anyone with any idea? It's very confusing for researchers if they don't know the areas

Llanhilleth (just a mile or so away) is in Pontypool Registration District, so I would guess Trinant is the same.
Registration Districts are made up from civil parishes, so working out which parish the village of Trinant is in would be helpful.

Changed my mind! ;D
Trinant is within the parish of Mynyddyslywn.
And Mynyddislywn is within the Registration District of Caerleon (from 1936 until 1974).
After 1974 it was in Newport RD.
Before 1936 it was in Newport RD.
Horeb Chapel, in Trinant, can be seen in the list of churches in Mynyddyslwyn parish:

Thanks for that :)
Still baffled by it though ... Newport would have been closer

GenUKI says, of Mynyddyslwn:
The parish, which is extensive, contains the hamlets of Mynyddmaen, Clawrplwyf, and Penmaen.
The whole parish would have been allocated to a Registration District.
Caerleon RD had sub-districts of: Caerleon, Chepstow, Mynyddslwyn, & Rogerstone.
There must have been a reason for the boundary changes in 1936?
Maybe the transport links were better back then to Caerleon?
